NCIS P2P Theory

Okay, even though I'm, at best, a casual viewer of NCIS these days - the Weatherly directed ep (which I, unlike most everyone else online, did not think was the best thing since sliced bread) was the last one I watched in its entirety without fast-forwarding through much of it or just not paying attention, and that makes it only the second or third ( Read more... )

I've personally given up speculating about the rest of the season, since I'm always wrong anyway. But I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about MW's "character evolution" comments. WTF???

I know he says we aren't seeing the whole picture, because of the footage that ended up on the cutting room floor, but come on, they wouldn't edit it to the point of changing the fundamental impression we get of the character. If anything, Tony seems to be regressing in the sex/romance department.

I AM looking forward to tonight's episode, because I'm very curious to see the first meeting between Tony & Gibbs and how they portray Tony as a homicide detective.

As to the end, I can think of two that really work: One, Tony quits (ala Gibbs at the end of season 3), but since that's been done to death, I think Two, the new SecNav or NCIS Director flat out fires him works just as well.

Curious to know, how do you see Tony featuring in next season's episodes, given either of these scenarios?

I've personally come to the sad realization that I'm not a big fan of Weatherly personally. His view of Tony so clearly clashes with mine that its frankly difficult to reconcile them. The parts he seems to like playing - goofball Tony, for example - are the parts I hate seeing. JMHO, of course.

I'm not, because I fully expect there to be more retcons buried in there, sort of like the absolutely absurd Ari retcon of season 6. Plus, as I've said elsewhere, Tony has slipped pretty far on my list of "favorite characters" and since this is going to mostly be a Tony-Gibbs ep, and I'm indifferent to both of them these days, I expect it'll only be moderately interesting to me. Truthfully, I want to see Gibbs, Tony and Ziva take a significant backseat for a while so we can focus on Abby or Ducky or McGee (remember him?) or Palmer. But alas, that'll never happen.

In scenario 1, where he quits, it would be pretty easy: the team simply isn't the same without him, and they all (except Gibbs) keep calling or contacting him with pleas for him to come back. And then, they have a case that comes up that has ties to that time when Gibbs was on his Mexican safari, so they have to call him back. And then, somehow, they just convince him to stay (as a former Tiva fan, I'd say with lots of Ziva sex, but that'd never happen either.)I'm afraid this gives me flashbacks to the whole "Worf comes back to the Enterprise every time we do a new Next Gen movie" scenario. Speaking of things not making sense...:P ( ... )

To me, it would make more sense to give Tony his own team.

Yeah, that makes sense ... but if Tony gets his own team, then he can't work with the rest of the cast unless its because Gibbs is no longer the team leader (for whatever reason.) Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you - Gibbs should be promoted to a desk where he can no longer do damage (coughmotherinlawcough), but I just can't see them actually doing that because it makes sense (and honestly? Tony only sometimes seems like he deserves his own team; far too much of the time, I'd promote Ziva or McGee over him but my dislike of GoofballTony is well known ( ... )

Remember, this was posted before the reveal about last night's killer being a copycat.

Before I comment on them, let me just say that you are not the only on-line person who thought MW's directing was wonderful. I didn't and with the exception of one person who commented on my review of the episode no one else liked it too - and that included at least one hard core DiNozzo fan.

I didn't actually dislike it - there was a lot of potential in there, but he focused too much on his own character and tried to be too smart by half. What I've discovered is that if an actor is directing a show he's on, it is always better if he minimizes his character's role - the episode of Supernatural that Jensen Ackles directed is a perfect example of that: Dean was barely in it as it focused entirely on Bobby, and it was a fantastic ep because Ackles wasn't playing Dean as fanfic!awesome!cool ... which is unfortunately what Weatherly did with DiNozzo.

I dislike EJ thoroughly, but oddly enough I don't think she's a baddie I don't think so either; I ( ... )

Ah, right, I didn't notice that.

I, and others, thought it was very poorly directed, all the whizzing cameras, etc. But yes, it also had far too much Tony in it - I know a lot of Tony-fen were surprised by how much he was in it and it was, IMO, a big mistake.

It is a mistake to show that Gibbs is never wrong. This is the prime opportunity to make him thus, but I doubt they'll go that route.

I miss the old-school, S1&2 were for me the best seasons. I'd love them to go back to that style, i.e. when we didn't have to search around to find the naval connection and they spent time on ships and subs and there was little focus on the personal angst. Having said that I've preferred this season to some.

Its a recent invention, I think. Season 6 and on. Prior to that, he occasionally did make mistakes - the whole of Kill Ari was centered around him screwing up, after all. Modern NCIS, though, has turned the characters in caricatures in that regard - Gibbs is never wrong (even when he is), Tony is never right (except when dramatically appropriate), and so on.

Interesting. Season 2 is actually pretty low on the list for me, above season 6 but below most of the rest. To me, season 3 was the best, mostly because season 2 really turned me off of Kate - her interactions with Tony seemed more below the belt than necessary, and for a former USSS agent, she lost her gun a lot - and season 3 intro'ed Ziva, who quickly became my favorite character. Ridiculous Frog plot aside, I also really liked season 4 because of the character dynamics - I was really able to believe they were all friends at that point, something that's difficult to ( ... )
