NCIS P2P Theory

Okay, even though I'm, at best, a casual viewer of NCIS these days - the Weatherly directed ep (which I, unlike most everyone else online, did not think was the best thing since sliced bread) was the last one I watched in its entirety without fast-forwarding through much of it or just not paying attention, and that makes it only the second or third ( Read more... )

In scenario 1, where he quits, it would be pretty easy: the team simply isn't the same without him, and they all (except Gibbs) keep calling or contacting him with pleas for him to come back. And then, they have a case that comes up that has ties to that time when Gibbs was on his Mexican safari, so they have to call him back. And then, somehow, they just convince him to stay (as a former Tiva fan, I'd say with lots of Ziva sex, but that'd never happen either.)

I'm afraid this gives me flashbacks to the whole "Worf comes back to the Enterprise every time we do a new Next Gen movie" scenario. Speaking of things not making sense...:P

To me, it would make more sense to give Tony his own team. Ten years languishing as second fiddle to Gibbs is long enough, I say. I know I said I wouldn't speculate, but just indulge me for a moment:

Scenario 1 - he takes over Team Gibbs (take your pick as to the reason Gibbs is gone - (a) he takes over for Vance; (b) he gets killed in the finale; (c) he is seriously injured and has to retire). Option (b) is plausible since MH has taken on Exec Producer duties and will be busy behind the camera.

Scenario 2 - he takes over Team Barrett (less likely, since I think her team is only temporarily assigned to Washington and will be returning to Rota after the P2P thing wraps up).

Aw heck, I doubt very much either of these will happen. Why do I even bother guessing? Best to just sit it out and see what they come up with...

Yeah, that makes sense ... but if Tony gets his own team, then he can't work with the rest of the cast unless its because Gibbs is no longer the team leader (for whatever reason.) Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you - Gibbs should be promoted to a desk where he can no longer do damage (coughmotherinlawcough), but I just can't see them actually doing that because it makes sense (and honestly? Tony only sometimes seems like he deserves his own team; far too much of the time, I'd promote Ziva or McGee over him but my dislike of GoofballTony is well known.)

One of the things I thought would be neat (before I became convinced that Vance was on his way out) is if Tony began gunning for his own team, but Vance clearly wasn't going to give it to him (see before-mentioned GoofballTony, plus the whole JennyDeath thing), which led Gibbs to force it (perhaps by accepting a promotion to Deputy Director, a job he hates. We always see the MCRT show their loyalty to Gibbs - I want to see more of HIM showing his loyalty to THEM.

Meh.

WORD.

I like that idea. Very much. Let's fire GG and SB, and put you in charge. *g*

LOL. I don't think that would be a good idea because the things I'd require and expect are pretty far from modern NCIS standard. For example, I hate that their less than legal actions never come back to bite them in the ass. I'd have an arc where a case they solved using their usual tactics (from season 4 to 6, probably 6 cause that's when they really seemed to stop caring about the law) has a very, very good chance of being thrown out because of their blatant disrespect for the law. Plus? I'd have Fornell begin actively trying to recruit McGee away from NCIS and into the FBI ... and then, I'd seriously toy with having Tim say yes. And the crimes? For starters, they'd be less ridiculous and actually center them more around the Navy and Marine Corps (no CIA or Mossad connections.) Let's have actual NCIS and NIS agents come forward with some of the whackier crimes they investigated.

So I'd probably end up killing the show because I don't want to see caricatures...

I don't see how any of your suggestions would 'kill' the show. Rather, I think they'd make it 100% better.

And I LOVE your idea of Fornell trying to recruit Tim.

I thought they DID consult with actual NCIS and NIS agents? Maybe they stopped doing that when DPB left the show?

Well, the eps really stopped making sense after DPB left (and given how off the wall some of them were, that says a lot, I think), and the real respect for the military waned following DPB's firing as well (which I only really noticed because I am ex-military.)

As far as I know, they do have at least on NCIS consultant, but ... gah. I dunno.

Ignore me. Just not in a great NCIS frame of mind right now. Realizing once again that what the show is delivering is about 180 degrees south of what I actually want. :(
