So I watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last night. You will note that this movie does not open until tomorrow. But I digress. I decoded to see this mostly because of a comment of Brandon's that it "looks like the chuunin exam for wizards." OK.....I'll forgive you because you haven't read book 4 (I'm assuming anyway) and the movie is never as good as the book. At any rate, the premise of rigging the triwizard cup etc....is to reveal more about the wizarding community. Rowling is careful to expose things in her books because she doesn't want to give away the ending to 7. A brief answer to a complex question. Sorry Vic, I love this series and I had to respond.

The entire point of rigging the Triwizard Tournament is because as long as Harry's at either the Dursleys' or at Hogwarts, he's nigh untouchable. The Triwizard Cup is turned into a portkey to whisk Harry away from Hogwarts, where he's vulnerable to Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

Here you have a kid whose parents died before he could remember them, and he's stuck living with relatives who are idiots and treat him poorly.

It wasn't stupid when Charles Dickens did something similar with Oliver Twist. Or when Roald Dahl did it with James and the Giant Peach. I could go on, but I think you get my point.

4 is the more important book. Mainly because of the ending. That is all I will say.
