[supports your ficwriting goals even though I don't know any of your fandoms well enough to offer prompts for them!]

And I hope all your travels are safe and uneventful. [waves!]

Thank you hon! ^_^ *waves back* You're welcome to throw stuff at me, however. I'm thinking of playing a game. You know how it's easy to fall into a fandom via reading fic and not know any of the canon, and trying to back engineer what you think canon is about from fanon? :D If you like, throw a fandom at me and maybe a brief description of what it's about, major players etc. and their character traits, and I could try to write a snippet and see how close I get through sheer luck and whatever I extrapolate from you. :D

...yes, I know, completely ridiculous. :D By the way, I got your DVDs a day or so ago! So I know what I'll be watching when I'm back from China....

Ahaha, oh yes, that is what I did for my first... three fandoms? Four? The fourth I think was Smallville, and then I did catch up on all the extant canon at the time... and then decided I should go back to reading fic without watching canon (as did a number of other Smallville fans!). And yes, I remember exactly that process of back-engineering canon; it was a bit like doing historical research by reading primary documents. Or I suppose by reading various fictionalizations of historical events would be a closer analogy. :-P

Which is to say, I think this sounds like a really fun idea! I will take a little time (but not too long, as you're leaving soon!) and try to come up with which fandom(s) I'd like you to try this with and write the descriptions.

Also, this idea reminds me of strangefandom, where people watch vids in fandoms they don't know and then write up what they think the show is about. Hilarity ensues!

Hahaha, yeah, that was me and Gundam Wing. And the latter half of Fushigi Yuugi. To this day all I've actually experienced of GW canon is one volume of manga that was a 'special chapter' about Zero.

Yup, I leave Friday evening, so anytime by Friday afternoon would be the "flying to China" deadline. Alternatively, you can keep coming up with things and I'll have something to do on the return flight, hehe.

Okay, that looks cool. Also sure to be hilarious for both the people who know the fandom and the people doing the guessing. It's like those one-liner summaries. :D

*rubs hands together* Oooer, I'm excited to see what you come up with. ^__^

Oooooh, fic prompts! &hearts &hearts &hearts

Mmh... I'll see if I can come up with something! I'm so lacking in the inspiration department at the moment, it's not even funny. Only 1 1/2 more months until my exams are over and hopefully I'll get my brain back after that! >.<"

Oooh, which gives me a prompt:

Fandom: Inception
Prompt: Set after the movie, Ariadne gets moral support from Saito (and perhaps Yusuf?) during her final exams at university. (Saito, I think, would be awesome at crazy cheering-up gifts that would make Ariadne's roommates - I'm not sure whether she has some, though Paris is just as expensive as New York or London, so she might, unless she's got one of these tiny former-servant-chamber rooms - go all "O_o ...Ariadne, someone just sent you a pony..." and make Ariadne laugh despite herself; while Yusuf might be very helpful with getting her to relax with funny stories and slightly illegal products ( ... )

Hey hey m'dear! ^__^ ♥ I'm glad you're almost done! YAY! \O/ So I'm hoping there's less departmental drama by now?

Oooh, I like that prompt. Let me see what I can come up with. 14 hours. I'm waiting for a plane? :P And did I know that you were in Inception fandom? Hmm.

Thank you! I plan to wander around Guangzhou, and do some touristy things, and shop, and eat delicious food. Mmmmm. I'm flying Singapore Airlines, I dunno if they have screens, but that would be fun. :P I checked the movie listings, and they're showing Inception, among a very international bunch of movies. So I could check and make sure my details are correct, hehe.

Hahah, one of these days we'll be in the same fandom again. What fandoms are you in, anyway? Maybe there'll be something I'll just try. Or you could do what I suggested to artemidora above, and see if I can do fic from back-engineered canon for you. ;D It is sure to be ridiculous.

Thanks m'dear! ^_^ ♥

Haha, we can only hope to be! My current fandoms are Stargate (still), Glee, Harry Potter, Torchwood/Who, and True Blood, Lost, Vampire Diaries and Star Trek (even though I don't read fic in 3 of them).

Back-engineered canon? I'm going to have to read this comment. lol

*shrieks* I love your icon, that is so awesome. :Db And ooh, well I still read fic in Harry Potter now and again when it is recommended to me, and same for Stargate Atlantis, and the odd (very odd) Star Trek fic (there's a really good ST reboot-based fic about Jim Kirk and how it takes a village (or a whole ship) to raise a child, ehehe, called Graduate Vulcan, have you read it? Language geekery abounds!). Though I've never written in any of those fandoms, I'm willing to give them a try if you don't mind my butchering them, ehehe.

Yes, back-engineered. Have you ever been part of a fandom without previous experience with the canon? I always seem to do that because I will follow authors that I trust into whatever fandoms they venture into. :D And then, well, see above. :P
