Even though I don't feel that I did your story justice.
You really did do it justice. I'm in awe of what you did with it. Isn't it funny - you must have been writing this around the time that I was celebrating my fanfic birthday, and it was the first long fic I'd written. How you must have chuckled to yourself.
Yeah, I remember "meeting" you and your X-Tarot this time last year in my apartment in Berlin with the stupid ethernet cord that didn't reach the desk so I had to lie on my belly on the floor.
I can hardly believe that you only started writing a year ago. Happy birthday.
I loved the air of menace in this, with Remus and Sirius living their lives, arguing about moving in, finding painters at the pub, while the world gets crueller and more dangerous around them. The little details - like the editor hiding his heritage, and the letter about appropriate marriage - were frightening, and so was the way that Remus wanted so much to help the writers, and Dumbledore, but had no way forward. (Also, I loved Sirius's spivvy-looking hair, and the ending!)
A really wonderful reimagining of the original story, which is the whole point of remix, isn't it? :) The seriousness here, and the quiet moments, work well.
I really like what you've done here, all that's implied, the way nothing's quite tidy -- and the cigar box, oh goodness, the cigar box. *sigh* Thanks for writing. :)
Cute! So cute and sweet and sad! I love the balance and intersplicing of the war, Remus's job, and his relationship with Sirius. I can tell it must have been hard to do so precisely, but you accomplished it beautifully.
There are so many details here, layers and layers, that it'll probably take another read through at least to appreciate them all, but the overall effect is lovely in itself.
(Plus, as a journalism student, some of the parts at the paper were kind of hilarious -- you know, the parts when you weren't busy chipping away at my heart.)
