Post of Epic!Win! in delicious description of the joy and pain of life over there.

Oh, if people could see the parallel earth where there's a Tory majority. Lib Dems are being the positive partners, but also the whipping-boy for everyone outside the government, in a way that isn't very clever in the long term but makes them feel better about things in the short run. For a bit of balance check out conservativehome where you get to see how achingly unhappy the Right are about it all: we're cutting tax for POOR PEOPLE, and putting up tax on UNEARNED INCOME, rather than the other way round; we're disgracefully not invading Belgium; Cameron is a crypto-Marxist, etc, and they cry salty tears of frustrated uberTory woe.

Pretty much this, yes.

Lots of people are crying about the Lib Dems' WOEFUL BETRAYAL re: tuition fees, and handily ignoring the moderation they've been able to inject into government policy that would otherwise run rampantly Conservative.

Labour decrying the tuition fee business as disgraceful and shameful just breaks my head. I mean, they had thirteen years to abolish that shit, top-up fees were brought in on their watch, but now they're the Opposition a rise in fees is the work of the devil Cameron and all his little Lib Dem wizards? Whut?

See, this *was* inspiring a further comment about how the things that seem to invoke the most Labour / union wrath are the things that Labour wanted to do (browne report plans for tuition fees. housing benefit cuts? see page 20 of the labour manifesto. AV referendum? not as bold as what the liberals wanted, far more than the tories wanted, but right there in the labour plan).

But then you gave me a picture of the Lib Dem ministers as little wizards, and now I have this awesome mental picture of them, including a wizard hat that is on the floor with sarah teather completely hidden inside it, and playing a game called Pin The Rincewind On The Liberal Benches. Squee!

Bollocks! The Tory's haven't messed up the country, they inherited a mess that'll take a decade to sort out. No matter who was in government right now would look bad, because they've got to make hard decision that'll screw over *someone*.

Only in time will we see whether or not the Tory's have messed up the country, and right now, they seem to have the balls to make the tough calls, even in the face of public disapproval.

You know, in the big book of 'First Words to Use When Responding to a Light Hearted Post That You Disagree With', I feel that Bollocks isn't going to be found.

And I do agree with you about them having to make the tough calls. I mean, David Cameron had to fire his personal photographer before people realised that he had hired one at public expense (he did it the same day Wills announced his wedding. In fact, quite a lot of bad news happened that day but didn't get picked up on. Man, coincidence!). And in a world where we're all being told to tighten our belts you've got to admire the balls of ANY government who'll let Voderphone keep 6 BILLION pounds that the law says the state is entitled to, and that Voderphone actually has stashed away for a rainy day, just as they were abotu to have to hand it over. Just so long as no one tells any other firms. I mean, they might now expect the same treatment and rob us all of even more money... Oh shit... They have found out. Poo.

We all miss you too. I wish we had Australia right there instead of Europe.

In fact, I'm pretty certain I can sell that to the Tories if I try really hard....

Come back for a visit some time!
