Civil Air Patrol

Well, it's official. After a few trial meetings, Len has decided to join Civil Air Patrol, which as you might expect from its name, is the civilian branch of the Air Force.  He is one of the youngest in his squadron (he's 12), and he's not currently in great shape although we expect that to change with the physical training he will be getting.  And ( Read more... )

That sounds so awesome! I bet he'll really enjoy it. Does he have to go to meetings or whatever? What do they do?

Yeah, they meet weekly. He'll learn lots of different things. The last meeting was about cybersecurity and white hat hacking. Just introductory of course. But he'll be able to choose different stuff he wants to learn and will even be able to get his pilot's license if he wants. It will also give him some good goals for getting in shape, which I know he wants to do, but he just is really nonspecific about it without guidance.

CAP, aside from acting as a leadership organization, also participates in ground and air rescues, so he may be called on to do that as wel.
