A question to the parents out there...

I don't have a bad driving record, I have not gotten any speeding tickets recently, and I have a new insurance policy on my car.  I would like to think that I am a good driver.  As a matter of fact, I'm rather paranoid about driving because I hate it so much, and am scared to death about getting into an accident ( Read more... )

I would politely ask her right out. Why doesn't she want you to take Jack on trips? You can say, "Is it my car? Or is it me?" She's your employer, you can ask these sorts of questions.

And, yeah, some people are weird about their kids riding in cars. When we first moved here, we met another family (who has since moved away) who had their son, age 11, about 5 ft tall, still riding in a car seat. No one else could drive him anywhere. Heaven knows how the kid would ever learn to drive a car himself. Mom would only drive around our area; Dad had to drive if they were going on the freeway. Okay, lady, you're too paranoid for me, and that's saying a *LOT*.

My brother is now like that with his children. A couple of years ago their good friends were in a roll over accident in their land rover, and one of their children in the back received serious head and neck injuries. The child will never fully recover. My brother immediately sold his SUV and now only drives vehicles with the highest crash test ratings. Other people aren't allowed to drive his children anywhere, and he is completely paranoid about car accidents. Of course he will never say this is the reasoning behind his behavior. I had to learn of the reason third or forth hand. He could never admit that fear of something would ever affect his behavior ( ... )
