Post-holiday come down

I got my first grant rejection letter as an assistant professor. Oh, yay. Didn't make the cut for the internal ACS grant. Oh, well, I kind of knew that would happen. Its pretty tough to justify infectious disease research (even if it is a real problem for cancer patients) to cancer wonks. They all want you to cure cancer. Whatevs. As if * ( Read more... ) -
Two-wheeled adventures and more
Saturday was a lovely day here in town. I pulled out my mountain bike and got the tires pumped up and a found a useful lock so I could ride down to 32nd and Lowell for the Highlands Street Fair. Slow down world, I want to get off!
Lots of things coming down the pike for me this summer and I'm starting to feel the crunch. Monday my Cancer Center grant was due. I got it submitted with relatively little difficulty except for the final collation of the pdfs. That scared me a bit, running to and from the library across campus to use Acrobat. When I got up this morning, I was not inspired by my breakfast options. Plain yogurt and granola or milk and cereal. So I had donuts from King Soopers instead. I believe that cancels out all that bike riding I did last night after work. Weekend Update
A bullety list is in order, I think
- I slept reeeaallly late on Saturday, which felt so nice. Of course, I'm awake at 5a with the birds and the cat, who at one point thought if he very gently put both paws on my forehead, I wouldn't notice. Then he learned to fly. So I lazed around until 10a which is very uncharacteristic of me.

I am very psyched--things are coming up in my garden! The sunflowers by the fence, the cosmos and the zinnias are all peeking through the soil. No herbs yet, but I am hopeful, especially for the basil. Also no morning glories or nasturiums, which I am surprised about because I soaked the seeds and they had started to germinate.
