Who is that Dead Guy in Godric's Hollow?

Stn5 posted the YouTube below from ThinkHeroTV, and it's a really great review - good stuff about Draco's awkward hug with Voldemort and praise for Alan Rickman.
But hilarity comes from the guy in the video has never read the books, so his comments about James in Godric's Hollow are, shall we say, priceless.

And before someone tells me that I'm ( Read more... )

Well, as for bashing James or someone's fandom--it's not as if you went to some James fan's LJ and posted this: you're on your own LJ....

The sad fact of James' character is....if his one big scene in all of the books is cut out, then all he does is get killed on his own doorstep. He's a non-entity in the books, except when he bullies Snape in SWM. I can sympathize with Harry's wanting his father to be inspirational (the stag patronus as the case in point), but there's really nothing in the books that supports the view.

James's appearance in the books consists of:

1. Bullying Severus and Lily on the Hogwart's Express.
2. Bullying Severus and Lily after their OWLs.
3. Bullying the Muggle cop in the prequel.
4. Standing in front of Voldemort without a wand.
5. Cheering his son on to meet his death.

Those are his actual appearances, we have these accounts by second hand; the detention cards show him bullying other students by casting nasty hexes and endangering the citizens of Hogsmeade by wandering over the countryside with a transformed werewolf.

Have I forgotten something? Oh yes, in 7th year he continues to hex Severus -- behind Lily's back.

Yeah, real terrific guy.

Yeah, Shapes Witch. That about covers it. Other than the rousing praise by his good buddy and co-bully, Sirius Black, we see very little positive about James Potter throughout the seven books. And, in the movies he's an image in he Mirror of Erised, he's a bully when Harry sees him in Snape's memory in OotP, he's a little snot in DH 2 flashbacks for The Princes Tale, and, he's an isolated image in the Forest, urging Harry on to his death ( ... )

That's a great list, SW. Makes it easy to see why they left most of the James story out of the movies. And basically, the whole Marauders thing is a tangent or red herring from the main plot of Snape/Lily/Harry. :)

Take any userpic you like! :) They are free to everyone, just credit nettlebrew.
