Newegg comments and complaints

Okay, the short version? I ordered a set of 3 DIMMs (6GB of triple channel memory in 2GB sticks). One of them is faulty, and I've RMA'ed it with Newegg ( Read more... )

What a useless company.
I'm boggled (and glad I don't have to deal with this shit).
Sorry, man.

The problem here is that the insistence on a full return is on the part of the manufacturer. Newegg is bound by the requirements they set. I saw that discussed repeatedly in the reviews when you linked me to the memory originally. It sucks, but it's far from Newegg's fault (even if they might have handled it differently, and the guy you talked to probably didn't know where the requirement came from). The manufacturer's stance is that revisions happen frequently and they can't guarantee that new and old chips will play together nicely or even at all. They won't let anyone, even Newegg, send partials back to them.

So. In short, *not* Newegg's fault. If you want to be mad, be mad at the people who made the memory. That said, I've bought packaged memory before, and I've had to RMA it. Every time, I had to return both sticks. I'm reasonably sure that's industry standard as far as memory's concerned for the aforementioned reason.

Well, I reckon some blame still lies with Newegg. They've sure sat on my various queries for a long time, shortening the window in which I might secure an RMA. In fact, now that I'm looking at the calendar, it's been thirty days since I've had the machine, and I think I'm pretty much screwed. I'll take some of the blame in that department, since I didn't harass them enough into giving me answers in a timely fashion.

I get that revisions happen frequently, but I would think that different revisions would have different bar codes and labels and such on the memory modules, and that a return of a single DIMM of such-and-so version would result in a replacement DIMM of the same version. Of course, I'm assuming diligence and version controls and documented change management in that scenario, which might be a little too much to ask.

If ever I get the faulty part back from Newegg, I'll beg for an RMA from OCZ and we'll see what happens.

You're operating under the assumption that they might have any of your particular revision on hand. They're operating under the assumption that they won't. They'd rather inconvenience you now than have you screaming at them later when it still doesn't work or you have to wait three times as long and why didn't they just ask you for all three in the first place since you have to send the others now anyway? If I were in charge of the decision on that one, I'd reluctantly agree. I don't like the idea of spreading inconvenience to everyone, but it still beats the massive inconvenience or worse to a few ( ... )
