DUDE IF ONLY IT WERE THAT EASY THIS YEAR.

however, i must state that 75% of the presents
for my fam are kitchen-related. canister sets,
hand mixers, electric carving knives, cook books,
and of course, a santuko knife set so i don't
have to cut tomatoes with plastic steak knives
every time i go home...

I have come to enjoy lists. It ensures that people get things they genuinely want. So I get some stuff from lists, but then other things that aren't. I like being creative, but the lists take some of the stress off, just in case they aren't uberthrilled with their creative surprises.

I personally love Gift Cards above almost all else, since they are essentially the gift of shopping. Shopping = quality time wandering around and talking to friends in my world, so this is good.

I am jealous of your bus. I did some Xmas shopping today and instead of my normal bus route, I had a lot of walking. :)

i love the availability of lists. luckily i was pretty much able to think of REALLY GOOD (and inexpensive!) gifts for my family this year, w/o the aid of lists. but, i had just recently been at my mom's house, so i had a couple of ideas of things that she'd like to have...i see my sister all the time, and they're the kind of people that don't need anything, but i noticed they're still using my mom's old crockpot that has a duct-taped electrical cord (and i got a wicked deal on a fancy programmable one), etc etc. for me, though, parents are typically very hard. and neither of my parents would provide a list even if i asked, i don't think...it's just a crapshoot, i guess, unless i get a moment of genius ( ... )

I kinda feel you on both ends... My uncle sent out an email list of about 5 CDS, 8 DVDS, and several books he wanted along with a disclaimer that anything not on the list but by the same musician or author are probably things he already has, so don't buy it. At first I thought it was kinda rude, and then I thought about it and realized he was the easiest person to shop for ( ... )
