Mara closed her eyes as she finished packing the backpack where she'd put hers, Logan's, and Lily's clothing and a few personal possesions, quickly putting it on and then picking up her little boy, stroking his hair and then kissing his forehead, unable to stop crying as she gathered Lily to her as well

The cantina's empty yet, even Wolverine's usual booth is bare.

Zanoah finds her first, whimpering and standing on her hind legs to give her heart sister a gentle lick on the cheek. -What's wrong?-

"Is Logan around?" Mara's voice broke. "I need help, my son's-" she stopped as Lily let out a distraught wail, then fell to her knees, putting Logan on her lap as she cradled her child. "Logan's sick, I can't help him."

Zanoah licks her hand, then licks Logan's face before gently catching at Mara's hand and heading toward the stairs behind the bar. -Up here. She and House are still sleeping.-

Mara gathered her children, shivering and kissing Lily's forehead. "Shh, honey, my love," she murmured desperately.

"You can take it off." She walks over and lays him on the couch, then tucks an afghan around him.

Mara stared at him, then beant next to her son and tucking him in before looking away, the tears flowing freely again as she shuddered.

"I'll get Logan." She shifts to wolf and trots down the hall to pass through the door and jump on House.

House started and sat up, blinking groggily.

"Zanoah?" he frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Back where she waited Mara tucked Lily in next to her brother, then sank to her knees and started to pray, her chest feeling raw and exposed as she crumbled against the couch and sobbed into the corner of the blanket.

She blinks, then squares her jaw and tightens her grip. "What happened?"

"He... he was on drugs, n' then he stopped, but he got sick," she shook and trembled. "N' then Logan got sick, and I didn't know what to do...." She broke off as the feelings overwhelmed her, and burried her face in Logan's shoulder. "I left him, I left him all alone!"

The small woman sighs and rubs her back. "Y' gotta take care 'o yer pups. Shhh, darlin', I know."

[mara_river]

Mara couldn't reply, just sobbing and hanging onto her.

Behind them House frowned.

"Would you like me to make up the guest room honey?" he asked softly.

"Yeah." She rubs her back. "C'mon t' bed. Things'll look better after yer rested."

[mara_river]

Mara didn't know how, but she could only follow directions as she reached for her daughter, then looked at her son, afraid to touch him.

"What do I do?" she breathed. The last time he'd been asleep and she'd gotten close he'd gone rigid, opened his eyes, and hadn't reacted since.

Logan scoops him up and dumps him into her arms, and the little boy continues sleeping peacefully. "Lemme git the new one. Ain't even met 'er yet."

[mara_river]

"She's Spencer's," Mara said meekly, gingerly handing her over and then clutching her son to her a wave of relief and new tears washing over her as she burried her face against him, stroking his back and barely managing to get her words out. "Her name's Lily."

Logan winces and holds Lily close. "She's gone."

[mara_river]

Mara looked up, confusion and worry written on her face.

"But...."

"There's time to discuss this tomorrow," House limped in, Jabez held close. "I think, however, sleep is the best medicine for now. Here, honey, I think she just got lonely."

Logan looks at her watch, then reaches to cuddle her baby daughter close with Lily. "Two hours before I gotta git up yet."

She turns back to Mara, her face softening. "Yeah, darlin'. Git some sleep. Er... sit alright if I take Lily?"

Mama wolf instincts are go.

Mara nodded miserbly, feeling it was better off that Lily be with a mother who could care for her, and sank onto the bed.

"She sleeps well in between people," she said softly, eyes glistening again.
