Mara closed her eyes as she finished packing the backpack where she'd put hers, Logan's, and Lily's clothing and a few personal possesions, quickly putting it on and then picking up her little boy, stroking his hair and then kissing his forehead, unable to stop crying as she gathered Lily to her as well

She blinks, then squares her jaw and tightens her grip. "What happened?"

"He... he was on drugs, n' then he stopped, but he got sick," she shook and trembled. "N' then Logan got sick, and I didn't know what to do...." She broke off as the feelings overwhelmed her, and burried her face in Logan's shoulder. "I left him, I left him all alone!"

The small woman sighs and rubs her back. "Y' gotta take care 'o yer pups. Shhh, darlin', I know."

Mara couldn't reply, just sobbing and hanging onto her.

Behind them House frowned.

"Would you like me to make up the guest room honey?" he asked softly.

Logan nods. "The one with the futon. Mara proly don't wanna be figurin' out a hammock right now."

[tehhouse]

"Sure thing," he said, turning to visit the linen closet for fresh sheets and a blanket.

She glances toward her grandson and frowns slightly, but then sniffs. "Zanoah done somethin'?"

Mara shivered, then nodded.

"She put him in a calm mind or something," she said shakily. "He was so sick from all the bad feelings, and projecting them on Lily."

"Proly shielded 'im," says Logan, reaching out to gently smooth the little boy's hair without letting go of his mother.

[mara_river]

"It was my fault. He hasn't slept or eatten in days," she said. "He wouldn't even blink or close his eyes. I didn't know what to do, and then Spencer... and after that it was worse, and I promised Spencer I'd stay but Lily was hurting so badly...."

"Yeah." Logan rubs her back. "Yer all safe now."

[mara_river]

"And not Spencer," Mara whimpered. "I broke my vows... I left him when he needed me most, I was so afraid...."

"Sounds like he broke his first."

[mara_river]

"I couldn't trust him... I was scared he'd... but instead he got sick, and tried to make ammends, and then there's Lily, and we had good times but so many times it felt like Jubal... I don't know," she wept.
