Mara closed her eyes as she finished packing the backpack where she'd put hers, Logan's, and Lily's clothing and a few personal possesions, quickly putting it on and then picking up her little boy, stroking his hair and then kissing his forehead, unable to stop crying as she gathered Lily to her as well

Logan winces and holds Lily close. "She's gone."

Mara looked up, confusion and worry written on her face.

"But...."

"There's time to discuss this tomorrow," House limped in, Jabez held close. "I think, however, sleep is the best medicine for now. Here, honey, I think she just got lonely."

Logan looks at her watch, then reaches to cuddle her baby daughter close with Lily. "Two hours before I gotta git up yet."

She turns back to Mara, her face softening. "Yeah, darlin'. Git some sleep. Er... sit alright if I take Lily?"

Mama wolf instincts are go.

Mara nodded miserbly, feeling it was better off that Lily be with a mother who could care for her, and sank onto the bed.

"She sleeps well in between people," she said softly, eyes glistening again.

"Most babies do." Logan smiles at her, the sadness still showing in her dark eyes. "Love you, kid."

"Thank you," Mara shivered, holding Logan close. House put his arm around his wife.

"We'll be right up in the morning, just down the hall if you need anything," he said, stroking Logan's hair.

The small woman hesitates, but then gives a soft chuckle as her small namesake snuggles his mother and sends sleepy contentment.

The slight ecouragement was all Mara needed; she was out like a light.

House leaned over to kiss Logan's cheek, then motioned that they should leave her to sleep.

She walks out with a last glance, then heads toward her room, noting the sound of music from the big master bedroom where Jubal and Robbie slept. "Darn kids left the game machine on all night again."

Which meant they'd probably played it all night again....

[tehhouse]

"I'll turn it off," House said. "Go get some sleep, sweetheart, I won't be long."

"Sure, darlin'." She walks wearily into their bedroom and lays both baby girls on the bed, where Jabez growls and snuggles Lily.

That makes her grin a little as she pulls off her over shirt and jeans. "Yeah, I know, darlin'."

She's still standing and looking at them when House gets back.

Lily sighed and returned then snuggled Jabez, and House smiled as he reentered.

"Alright. Come, darling, you need your sleep too," he said.

"Yeah." She lays down on the futon and gets the babies adjusted, then reaches for the blankets and glances up to see what he's doing.

He set his cane down, then eased into the bed himself, working hard to keep from disrupting the babes.

"Alright," he said softly, then looked up. "Huh, I can do it."
