Why is it that I feel so irritated whenever Kaplan (the company that owns the college I graduated from) Career Services calls me going 'Hay, got a real job yet? :D?'
I graduated from my university in 1980. I didn't work in my major for nearly 10 years and then only for a few years. They still call me and ask if I work in my major. Not sure what that means except that you might have to get use to the phone calls. They're down to once a year and only after asking for money first.
I still get calls and e-mails from the University I attended, too.
Have you tried asking the person who calls to make a note in your file that you live in Virginia? Offer to wait while they make the note. It should help a little.
Or, ask to be put on a "do not call" list. That should give you a year's break.
(Although, I mostly get "Have you heard about our new stadium? Isn't it great?" calls from my school. I find the "Yes, I know about the stadium. It messes up traffic to my neighborhood every game day and is a big eyesore," reply in a frustrated or tired tone works well to get the person off the line.)
He still, to this day, gets advertising materials, requests for updated information and requests for money sent to his mother's address - despite having moved twice since leaving home, and never having actually lived at the address they send the details to (and never once advising them of ANY change of address - what made them think he lived there, and how did they get the details anyway???). This is a massive invasion of privacy - and despite repeated requests in writing it hasn't stopped, even after 17 years
( ... )
All UMBC wants from its alumni are donations of large amounts of money to the school. I get both phone calls and mail asking for money. My question is "Where is MY money?". I spent a bunch on an education that turned out to be completely useless.
My father got alumni newsletters/money requests from his university for over twenty years. What they want to know is "Do you have a job, and can you send us cash yet".
