restaurant faux pas

Went out to lunch with a couple of coworkers yesterday. This is rare. I usually eat in my office like a tiny wee hermit. Coworker A and I had agreed the day before that we were going to have lunch at Panera. I called up coworker B to invite him along and he agreed, after a short pause. I guess because these are both the kind of restaurant that's found in a food court, even though you obviously weren't in a food court?

Hmm. I suppose so? I consider Panera nicer than a food court place, although it's still an order-and-collect-food-at-counter deal. They have free wifi and interior decorations usually include carpets and a fireplace. But this food-court-iness may be the very heart of the issue.

If the two restaurants are within spitting distance, this is acceptable, especially if you're eating outdoors.

It is low brow to do that if they are both stand alone sit down restaurants. Most restaurant would not allow it.
