Poor little buggers :*( Thank god they're with you now though - and I am so sorry about that lumpy lady... Jayne and I dealt with a similar resuce not all that long ago... :( from a bloody breeder no less.

Its so sad :( These girl's nails were so long, they'd almost curled into their feet. Makes me wonder if they ever actually came out to move around.

Oh that's horrid! Here's hoping the two remaining girls pull through all right.

Completely off-topic, but I wanted to ask you something. What diet are your rats on, and what bedding do you use? Two of my four rats have scabs a lot, and I've tried all sorts of things.

Is there a healthy but low-protein diet you know of? I'm worried about them.

Also, one of my older rats, Todd, has a lot of missing fur due to my youngest rat, haro barbering him. Haro is generally fine with the other three, but can be very pushy. I'm worried for Todd, any idea what I can do to combat this?

*sucks as an owner*

The thing about protein causing scabs is one of those old wives tails of ratdom. There is no actual proof that too much protein causes scabs. I used to believe it too, so its still going about ( ... )

I just started them all on ivermectin drops 0.08%, it says to give them it every week for three weeks? They had some meds from the vet previously, but it just came back.

Where can I get lab blocks? I'm in the UK but am not sure where to get them.

It is mostly his front legs, they're pretty much bald, and he's been doing it a long time. He's the bottom in the order, I THINK, but I'm glad it won't hurt him. I'm not planning on showing them, either :3

Thanks for the help, I admire your work for rats!

Awww. The poor little girl with the lump makes me afraid for my old man. He's got a lump, nowhere near that big, but treatment isn't an option. I can't find a vet within 300 miles that treats rats. I know he'll have to be put down, and that scares me. Any advice on how I could do that at home without a lot of pain and stress for him??

Good luck with the other girls. How are they around you? They look pretty calm and friendly in the pictures.

Im afraid there is no way to humanely euthanise a rat at home yourself, unless you're a vet nurse or vet with access to the right meds and equipment ( ... )

Thanks a lot for your advice. I really appreciate it.

Mind if I print your reply out to take with me? I'm going to call around tomorrow, when they open, and see what I can do. I don't care what they want to charge me, I just don't want my boy hurting.

Sure, print it out.
Any vet worth his salt should welcome advice on things he's not so experienced with :)
