When I arrived at work at the vet's today, the practise manager said 'Ooh, I've got a present for you!' and held out a carrier containing 3 dirty, thin does.
They'd been dumped outside the gates of the building early that morning.
When I took them to house them in a kennel until I finished work, I thought there were 4 for a moment. But it was the lump on one of the girls.

This girl was put to sleep.
The lump was inoperable due to its size. I'd have done anything to help her, but the kindest thing to do was to put her out of her misery. She could hardly walk. She ate well, and was still lively, but pictures don't do this lump justice. It weighed more than her.
The other two have bad respiratory and are crackling and breathing hard. They're both riddled with mites and have scabs all over them.

What kind of brain dead scum lets animals get into this state let alone then dumping them outside a building where anything could have happened to them? Is it so hard to take responsibility for your actions and decisions? If I ever meet these people, I'll spit right in their faces.
Had they simply handed these girls into rescue a few months ago, I might have been able to get her lump removed and the remaining two may not have such bad respiratory.
They're both on a high dose of baytril now and Im hoping it'll sort out their crackling.
The roan girl's nails are like talons. They're virtually curling in on themselves. I have no idea how people get a rat's nails to be like this. Even if a rat never comes out of its cage or has its nails clipped, it should wear them down a fair amount just from moving around its cage. I wonder if these rats actually LIVED in the carrier they were dumped in.
Whoever left them somehow thought to put some tissue paper in as bedding, but no food. I cannot fathom the logic in that.
But then, I can't fathom the logic in doing this to begin with.
Maybe Im extra bitter because I know how many absolute Jeremy Kyle-esque scum live around here, and they always end up taking their idiocy out on their pets.
