"I do [have things mapped out]. The third is more ambiguous, but the second one, I’ve written a draft that I’m really happy with and is darker and richer, and it has a wonderful antagonist in it in Azula, who’s kind of like our only real, pure antagonist in the series, so I’m excited about that.

How about Zhao and Ozai? This guy obviously doesn't care about the source material.

Your reaction is the same one I had.

And now I'm going to listen to spill.com's review of the movie for the tenth time.

Seriously.

This. Ozai is a much more straightforward antagonist than Azula. Then again, Azula is female and everyone knows only male characters can be complicated.

Seriously; the man was planning to burn the entire Earth Kingdom. If that's not a "pure" antagonist, I don't know what he thinks is.

besides we couldn't have TWO strong female characters in one movie, and Azula's the villain, so... eh, she's just a kid, no one will miss her...

True that! A battle strategy:

1) Kick M Night in the nuts
2) ?
3) Profit!

the role of Toph will be played by Topher Grace because, DUH it's a boy's name! Mike and Bryan didn't know what they were doing, only the great M. Night knows the true names of things.

Just like in Earthsea! Oh, wait...

(and on a related note, Disney is releasing the Studio Ghibli version of Tales of Earthsea. Which I have seen, and yes is racefaily also. It's basically the third book to Earthsea's mashup of the first two, in almost exactly the same way that Rankin Bass did "Return of the King" and Ralph Bakshi did the first two books in his animated LOTR. With just as much fail.

Hayao Miyazaki let his son direct it rather than do it himself. Never again...)

I know, right?

I absolutely adore Ursula Le Guin! Especially her Hainish and Earthsea series... But when I saw the Scifi Channel's rendition I was like, "WTF?!"... Have you seen Le Guin's rant about it? It was awesome; it highlights so many of the issues this comm is about. (Not gonna lie, first time I heard about the casting I was like, "Oh shit, it's Earthsea all over again.")

I think we still have that hope. Nothing is set in stone yet...
