One of Bill Paxton's upcoming projects is a Kung Fu movie (based on the Carradine series), per this source.

Considering that the tv show is a notorious example of whitewashing, this is something to keep an eye on. However, Paxton's remarks in the linked article are somewhat promising:

While substantial news about the live action Akira adaptation has petered out since the last Racebending article covering it,Variety Magazine  has recently reported that not only is project Akira (helmed by director Jaume Collet-Serra) a go, but that Tron:Lecacy leading man Garrett Hedlund is being considered for the titular role.
