Warners greenlights 'Akira'; Hedlund front-runner

While substantial news about the live action Akira adaptation has petered out since the last Racebending article covering it,Variety Magazine  has recently reported that not only is project Akira (helmed by director Jaume Collet-Serra) a go, but that Tron:Lecacy leading man Garrett Hedlund is being considered for the titular role.

All things considered, it would appear that Warner Brothers spent the time between updates hashing out the budget -which has reportedly been reigned in from "well over $100 million" to $90 million- rather than looking into more chromatic casting choices.

As of now, Warner Brothers is aiming for a "late February/early March start."
