No Show Fee : Flight Application

In more ways than one, Yehsung thought, he was blessed.

For more years than he can count (or would even want to), he spent his life with twelve of the best (worst, noisiest, foulest) people in the whole world. He had two families, the other bigger than his original one. He lived his dreams, survived all the intrigues that threatened to pull them apart. He never lost touch with his parents and his brother. He never forgot to pray.

And he met an angel.

He could still remember than day-how long has it been, anyway?-more clearly than Leeteuk would ever know. He still remembered the messy mass of hair hidden in a baseball cap everyone knew he took from an older brother or a friend. He had pants at least a size bigger than his and a shirt that expressed his love for the extraterrestrial. He looked like anyone else-just another dreamer, another punk-and there was nothing of interest in him.

Then he looked up to him and smiled.

It was Leeteuk’s idea to say hi (because Yehsung was too busy dying), dragging his friend with him. Even at that early a time, YunHo and Heechul were already hovering around them like he was their baby (three guesses who was the mother). The punk didn’t seem to mind it, though; he even looked like he loved the amount of attention and affection he was getting.

Lee Donghae, he thought.

Yehsung cradled the phone on one hand, the other busy looking through the script he was supposed to learn. The audition was in a few days and he needed to get ready but Leeteuk called him from wherever he and Kangin were and he couldn’t possibly put the phone down (leader-sshi would pout and that would mean the end of everything) even if he wanted to. It was ok, though; he hasn’t spoken to him in a long time.

He put down the script, deciding that it was useless to even read it-what with Leeteuk’s excited voice narrating their latest escapade in the Alps (how he heard Kangin’s bones creaked when he fell while skiing). He padded towards the kitchen-he needed his coffee; he was sure this was going to be another one of those long nights on the phone.

How’s Donghae and Heechul, Leeteuk asked.

Great old leader-sshi looked dubious when Heechul had suggested that they live together. The rest of the members have already laid out their plans for the next few months and they were the only three left. Donghae had agreed in a flash and no one even said anything about how Yehsung immediately said that they should get a new apartment. The living arrangements, of course, were dominated by Heechul, who immediately claimed the biggest room in the house (which he now shared with JaeJoong, of course). Not that he should complained or anything; he ended up sharing a room with Donghae.

Fussing over Jae, he answered, grabbing a jacket near him. It was drizzling, he realized, and he last saw JaeJoong on the veranda. Knowing that dongsaeng of his, he would forget how deadly a little light rain could be. Donghae, too? He almost rolled his eyes at the sound of Leeteuk’s tone. He knew what that meant.

We all are, hyung. There was finality in his voice, something that told Leeteuk that he should drop it. He passed by Heechul’s room, pausing to wave. The latter looked up from his work, mouthing Jungsu? He nodded, grinning when Heechul rolled his eyes.

The wind was picking up and he could hear the rain drops get heavier.

*

Heechul pretended to be reading the script for his next drama as he saw Yehsung pass by. The younger one had been talking to Leeteuk for more than hour now and he was thankful for that little distraction. At least for the time being, there would be no longing in Yehsung’s eyes every time he’d see Donghae with JaeJoong. Making sure that Yehsung was out of sight, he reached for his mobile phone and sent Leeteuk a message via Kangin’s phone.

Thank you.

He was at least midway through his planning when he suddenly paused, pen up in the air. Wait, he thought. There was something he missed, something he should’ve seen-his eyes widened.

It was raining and Yehsung was outside his room.

Oh shit.

*

Leeteuk was ranting about the latest scoop on the YunJae (YunHo and Hyukjae) drama and Yehsung wondered how he could be more updated than the people who lived in Korea. He seemed to know every detail, every scenario and he knew JunSu would kill for this information. Maybe he could offer them to YooChun when he dropped by later, he thought. At least that could get the-

He stopped, eyes widening.

Donghae…

*

Heechul almost ran, his footsteps wide and fast. Something was telling that there was something wrong and that Leeteuk would kill him-slowly and painfully-if something should happen to any of the younger ones. He had left them in his care and he can’t fail. Not like this.

But he was too late.

Yehsung was standing in the middle of the living room, frozen like some statue in a museum. He could hear Leeteuk’s voice over the phone-giggling like a he was still twenty, which he hasn’t been in a long while. He took the phone from Yehsung’s hand, quickly telling Leeteuk that they would call later, and grabbed the younger one’s arm, dragging him out of the living room as quickly as he could.

No. Yehsung shouldn’t have seen that.

He shouldn’t have seen that.

*

That night, in Korea, Heechul didn’t sleep.
That night, Yehsung held onto his hyung and let his tears fall.

That night, in the other room, Donghae smiled in his sleep.
That night, JaeJoong let the younger one hold him close and didn’t ask, didn’t think of anything but him.

That night, in Vancouver, ChangMin picked up his phone and dialed.

tbc.

***** AUTHOR'S NOTES *****
I'll have to take a short break from writing because I can't use my left hand properly. For some reason, my left hand is always in pain whenever I use it. My apologies since it will take a little longer than usual for me to update this. I really need to rest my hand. But rest assured that once my hand goes back to how it was, ChangMin I will be back with a vengeance. ^^

Check-in. Check-out.
