It wasn’t like it was rocket science or anything remotely connected to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. One didn’t even have to consult the dictionary or bury his nose in stuffy old books. Quite the contrast really because what it was-well, was the simplest thing ever.
He missed them-all of them. YunHo, YooChun, JunSu, ChangMin.
Most especially ChangMin.
“Your house reeks of so much of melancholy, it makes me sick.”
“Then leave,” JaeJoong said, burying his face in the humongous bear ChangMin left behind. “I don’t even remember asking you to come here anyway.”
“You asked to be left alone.”
“Exactly, Heechul hyung.”
“But you don’t know how stubborn Donghae can get.” Heechul opened his closet, looking through rows and rows of outfits. “You should’ve called us, really. We could’ve helped.”
“Helped?” The word echoed in his mouth, in his mind, like promises he once shared with four other men. He didn’t want to be helped right now, not by anyone who wasn’t Dong Bang Shin Ki. All he needed was them; all he needed was him.
“I don’t need help, hyung.”

Yehsung watched his dongsaeng move in a kitchen so supposedly unfamiliar to him. There wasn’t something odd about Donghae being overly concerned about the people closest to him but somehow, this wasn’t about Donghae being normal. This was Donghae being too much involved with JaeJoong’s situation.
“Why?”
“Hm?” There wasn’t even a stop in his movements.
“Why are you doing this?”
“Doing what, hyung?”
“Doing this, Donghae. Being concerned about JaeJoong, doing things for JaeJoong.” Yehsung ran his fingers through his hair. “You’ve never been this concerned about Jae. Not even when he had that accident years ago.
“You were always about-”
Donghae stopped for a moment, hands gripping the wooden spoon too tightly for comfort. He had struck something, Yehsung could see. He could potentially make the younger boy cry with all these inquiries but he wanted to know why, wanted to know what had prompted this change in Donghae. He wanted to know why Donghae had picked JaeJoong when he, when he-
“JaeJoong hyung needs me now, hyung. That’s what this is.”

「 What do you mean you haven’t called him? 」
ChangMin had to pull his cellphone away from his ear. It was a good thing, he thought, that the path he took to his class was deserted; Kyuhyun’s voice was loud enough to be heard by a person a mile away from him.
「 Exactly that. 」
「 He’s been waiting for you to call, stupid! You promised everyone you’d call. 」
「 I know. 」
「 That’s what you’ve been telling me and Kibum hyung! 」
「 It’s just that… I don’t know what I should tell him, Kyu. 」
Kyuhyun laughed, the amusement in his voice ringing in his ear. It made him miss his best friend much more, ChangMin noted; he still hasn’t gained a friend in Vancouver and he had been there for two weeks. He should be hanging out with someone now to save him from missing Korea too much.
「 Wait till Kibum hyung hears that. 」
「 Great, Kyu. Thanks for being such a friend. 」

There was something going on, Heechul observed, something that could potentially be one of those drama series he usually stared in. Yehsung was torn between being concerned about JaeJoong’s situation and being all protective about Donghae (why, he wouldn’t ask-at least not now). Donghae was all over JaeJoong-feeding said hyung, cuddling him, trying to make him smile. And JaeJoong… well, he was too busy moping about a boy who wasn’t looking back of what he could potentially lose.
He should’ve been a screen writer.
“You should get out of this house, Jae. It’s not healthy for you to stay here.”
“Jongwoon hyung’s right.” Yehsung raised an eyebrow-he hasn’t heard Donghae call him that in ages. “We could go shopping! I bet we could call up YooChun hyung and-”
JaeJoong shook his head. He did not want to disturb YooChun or JunSu or YunHo. They have new dreams and they should be fulfilling them, he thought. If they knew about this un-JaeJoong-like drama, he knew that they would leave everything behind just to be with him. And he didn’t want that; he didn’t want to drag them down with him.
“How about this, Jae,” came Heechul’s voice from one side of the room. “Live with us.”
He blinked. “Live with you?”
“Yes.”

The professor’s voice droned on, leaving a lot of students drowsy and anxious for the bell to ring. Funny, ChangMin thought, how students never change no matter the age. Even his fellow students who were older than him were pinching themselves to stay awake. There was a part of him that felt sorry for the old professor-it wasn’t his fault that he was a walking sleeping pill-but still, that was how academic life worked.
Quite unlike how busy his life was with Dong Bang Shin Ki.
He sighed, looking out the window. He still hadn’t called JaeJoong and he had run out of reasons why he couldn’t. Kibum and Kyuhyun had been threatening him to get his act together, lest they drag his sorry butt over back to Korea to get that JaeJoong business over with. Not that it wasn’t nearing game over, Kibum had mentioned.
It made him wonder if leaving Mr. Bear with JaeJoong was enough to tell him a promise he couldn’t put in words.
I’ll be back for you, hyung.

His eyes scanned the whole house, taking it all in. There were so many memories-that stain on the supposedly immaculately white sofa bed, courtesy of course of the ever so clumsy JunSu, that crack YunHo’s dancing made on the dinner table-so many things ChangMin wasn’t able to capture with his camera. The songs YooChun composed, songs they all hummed without even thinking.
He’s leaving a few things behind, some of which he will donate to charity. YunHo practically beamed when he said that and YooChun laughed so hard they thought he would have another one his asthma attacks. JunSu just smiled and said that it wasn’t the house that mattered; it was the home they built together.
(The memories they made-some of which he should stop reminiscing everyday.)
He’s packed the PS III JunSu and YunHo won years ago, the one YunHo made sure he saw when he came back. He also brought that soccer ball JunSu left behind; YooChun’s hats were also safely in one of his boxes. And of course, Mr. Bear was all cozy in his bubble-wrap-covered world.
It was time, he thought, to leave all these behind.
It was time to start anew.
