Employment

As you all know, I've had... sketchy... paid employment over the last seven years. It's not been such a problem from a financial point of view, however I feel like my brane has gone to mush over that time ( Read more... )

Sounds exciting (the job not the sewing machine). If you want someone to help spruce up your CV, just fire it my way. I'm getting really good at doing other people's CVs/applications (if I do say so myself).

Thank you for that offer - the thought had crossed my mind to seek your guidance :) I'll let you know, B and I need to talk it through.

Thanks. I kind of would need care that would take her to kinder, though. B and I are both on the kinder committee (aargh, yes, it's true!), so we can't really withdraw her from there.

Would family day care be an option?

My brothers (youngest is now 13) were all in family day care, and they would take them to and from kinder, do school pick ups and all that. Hours were more flexible than the childcare centres too.

Thanks for that link, I will look into it. First choice is a child care centre around the corner from the kinder who walk the kids to the kinder and back for each session. However if they don't have a vacancy then we'll have to look into other options.

A HEW 6 is the level I'm at now - 5s and 6s are the workhorses of a University....a case of "all care AND all responsibility" - and although the job sounds like a goody you will want to make sure they give you an official Very Big Stick with which to bop the stupid students who are attempting to burn the place down on their dumb dumb heads.

Good luck!

Yes, I get the impression that they're expecting a lot from the person who fills this role - it sounds very busy. Thankfully I'm not in Chemistry, so there shouldn't be too much of the burning down going on!

They should be used to women applying for jobs who have been out of the workforce for a few years, so I wouldn't let that worry you. A CV is all about demonstrating what you *can do* - and if you work with a professional CV writer, you may realise you have relevant skills that the employer would find attractive that they didn't list on the application ( ... )

Um, one paragraph you state they'll be OK that I'm a Mum who's been out of the workforce for a while, then you say not to list anything older than three years. It'd be a pretty bare resume if I only list jobs done in that time - Swinburne is the only one, and it really doesn't address all the skills I'm wanting to advertise.

I'm not actually looking for a job right now, that was going to happen next year. But I just happened to find this job listing and saw just how perfect it was for me, hence me actually applying for it. If I don't get it, then c'est la vie, and I'll be happy at home still.

Your qualifications are always relevant. And hey - you haven't exactly been sitting idle these last few years. You were working at Swinburne within the last three years, for a start, and there were a lot of transferable skills there. And there's a whole stack of committee stuff that is entirely relevant :-)

I think you should go for it! :-)

Some of the best resumes I've seen have been one-pagers, BTW. If you get to the point about what you're capable of, they may appreciate you for it! ;-)

Oh, and yes, I'll get Trae to look through my CV before sending it off.
