I attended mwbard's visitation today. There were a good crowd of family in attendance, though I seemed to be the only friend, aside from a local man (a childhood friend, I think) who had not seen mwbard in some time. mwbard is being removed from all support. While he can breathe on his own, CT/MRI scans show extensive damage. He'll be put on painkillers till he passes away. His boyfriend Jacob is in town, and has visited with him, noting that Michael was responsive to light, and to his touch. He met Michael's family for the first time.

mwbard, Michael Bard, known in his fandom as "Morgan," suffered a severe stroke while at work late last week. He works the night shift at a gas station and was not discovered for several hours. For years, I've had dim memories of reading Robert Bloch's last published work, in Omni magazine. The horror author was one of H.P. Lovecraft's penpals, and the writer of Psycho. The late Clive Exton wrote a number screenplays for British television, perhaps most memorable being the Jeeves and Wooster dramatizations, as well some of the Poiroit adventures.

The late George MacDonald Fraser wrote the excellent Flashman series of novels, as well as a variety of lively historical pieces.

Together, they wrote Red Sonja.

Darth and Droids is a web comic based on the idea that the Star Wars prequels are actually a SF RPG. D&D co-creator Dave Arneson died last night, aged 61. Arneson was credited as co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons. He also ran the very first tabletop RPG games, starting in 1969, I believe.

I intend to have my next "Pyat's Fortress" ep, wherein I visit some of the places where D&D was written and first sold, sometime this weekend.
