I had a busy work night, last night, with all of the bad weather. It was pretty tame until the storm got really bad and all of the lightning strikes began. We were working fires in almost every part of the city. If you saw the live footage on the news, downtown with all of the sparks shooting into the air, that's where I was. Everyone has to consciously try to maintain perspective. I see alot of guys on my job who seem to have forgotten how lucky we are to be able to do what we do. I don't want to be someone who takes what I have for granted.

Jon, Jon, Jon. . . Your job is piece of cake. Don't you guys just sit around playing Halo and eating gourmet meals and desserts all day? That's what I heard. I'm just kidding. I'm not sure about all of the physical elements about your job, but I know that they are more than I could ever handle, however some of the psychological ramifications are mind-boggling to me. I am not sure how you keep yourself sane. (Are you sane?) I would have quit that job 200 dead people ago ( ... )

My mind was fucked up already. That's why shit rarely bothers me. I'm like some kind of incredible Darwinian super-psycho. I exploit my emotional numbness as an evolutionary advantage and then amplify it with the choice hops and select 6-row barley of pure Sterling beer. Someday, everyone will have developed a cold robotic, alcohol-powered brain like mine. I'm just ahead of the times.
