a) God, my life has been crazy-busy of late. Between crewing Macbeth and starting grad school in two weeks and job applications and suddenly having a social life, what with the influx of awesome fannish people into New York City, my writing time has dwindled to diddlysquat. Which sucks, because I actually have ideas now! And I don't feel hopelessly ( Read more... )

life outside the internets, process: part preparation and part panic, meme me, ivory towers, all the world's a stage, reaction shot

Hee, I hope you don't mind another fannish person crashing NYC in the coming weeks! (social life what is that)

I'm sure you'll do fine in grad school, hon! Being the youngest has nothing to do with anything! <3

... your head is cool. It is Surrealist and cool. I might be writing idpic post right now ha ha I am so original now.

Hell no! *grins* I do not mind the influx of fannish people in the least, because everyone I've gotten to hang out with in the past few weeks has been kind of completely awesome. Say what you will about taking fandom too seriously, but I think the friendships I've formed in fandom -- and how well they translate into Real Life -- are more than enough justification for the whole thing.

I know this in theory! In practice, I am prepared to be totally intellectually owned. orz.

My head is fucked up as all hell, you mean. But Surrealist, definitely. Do it! We will form a club! Or something!

But, you know... being intellectually pwned (or owned, or whatever) is only bad if you think it is. The professors I learned the most from, as both an undergrad and a grad student, were the ones who allowed themselves to learn from their students. If you look at is as not about being the best but as getting the most out of it, you'll be more than fine!

Point! I just set rather high standards for myself, and I still kind of equate being wrong to being fundamentally bad, but I'm getting better at it. I think.

Perdido Street Station by China Mieville (alsjdfsAMAZING until the last thirty pages, where Mieville decides to dick with his readers in a way I really really dislike),

...He kind of does that habitually, doesn't he? But he's still worth reading, I agree!

You're going to be awesome in your grad program, I just know it. *cheers you on from afar*

This is the first book of his that I've read, but I've heard that he has a habit of dropping the ball with his endings, which is frustrating, to say the least. (Because dang, I love so much else about that book! But the last thirty pages raise an ethical question that's not tied into the thematics of the rest of the book at all, or not nearly well enough, and doesn't give nearly enough time to explore the implications of that in a way that does service to the story or the characters. It's used for shock value, and to poke you in the eye and chide you for your complacency, and I don't like that.)

Thanks for the support! I'm really excited about the program, but there's a lot of nervousness bundled up in that.

Huzzah for grad school, man! ♥!!

I am sure your life will eventually settle a bit at least enough to let you get your write on. And I certainly can't wait to see the result of that.

Also this past weekend was fantastic, even if I only got to see you for a bit, but damn it all, I WILL BE BACK!
