After Rachel choked on her audition, she spent the next few days asking everyone she knew to validate her talent for her. She needed to hear that they thought she was amazing and that she deserved to get into NYADA even though she’d choked.

Puck lied and told her what she needed to hear. If he was honest, he thought even if a miracle happened and she got in, she’d fail. She fell apart every single time her life got a little hard and someone else would have to put her back together, then she’d be alright for a while and take all the credit for their win.

It was easy to lie to her. All he did was tell her exactly what he thought about Kurt. Kurt would make it. Kurt would end up being the most successful out of all of time, professionally and personally, Puck was sure of it. People listened to him, respected him. Kurt had talked Finn out of joining the army, he’d convinced Puck he was ready for his make-up test, he even told Rachel she deserved NYADA. Kurt was the best of them.
