It could never have been exactly what he was used to, because they didn’t really have access to costumes - unless the robes counted, but now that he was two months in they were finally starting to feel less like dress-up and more like regular clothing - and the only way they would be getting candy would be if it was included in dessert.
On the other hand, even though they kept up with traditions, the holiday hadn’t been such a big deal around his house for the last few years, not since his mother had died. It had always been her holiday. Kurt could remember how excited she would get, how she’d decorate the house as soon as it was October and make treats with marshmallows and chocolate that looked like ghosts and vampires and spiders ( ... )

Beside them, Colin hadn’t even started eating yet. He was clicking away at his camera, trying to catch every angle of the room.
Puck reached over Sam to tap Colin on the shoulder. “Yo, Colin. Stop taking pictures of it and just enjoy it.”
“But just look at how cool those pumpkins are!” Colin protested, turning around to point his camera at the nearest one ( ... )
