30 Magic Moments- Feet On the Ground (Or a Few Feet Off) (1/2)greenglowsgoldJune 6 2012, 18:37:18 UTC
The thing about it was, Kurt had seen it listed on the schedule from the very first day, had technically known that his Thursday afternoons were listed under ‘Flying Class’ with Madam Hooch, the note printed in the exact same ink and style as the rest of his classes.
He’d just figured it was a mistake.
Unfortunately, he found, it wasn’t.
Kurt swallowed nervously and clutched his bag to his chest as he waited for class to start, standing as far away from the neat rows of broomsticks as possible. After all, could they really expect him to fly after only a few days at Hogwarts? He’d never used a broom for anything other than chores in his life. Then again, every one of his lessons had dived right into practical material (except History of Magic, which Kurt was sure would become boring in less than a week, but for now, it offered a welcome break from being told to use his wand without much idea of how), so maybe they really would expect him to get on a broom.
‘Hope they have the magic to fix it when I break my arm,’ he thought grimly

“Mount your brooms!” Madam Hooch called, and Kurt swung a let out over the broomstick. “Now I don’t want to see any of you going above my eye level on the first try. You’re going to kick off lightly from the ground and hover low for a few moments. When you feel steady enough, lean forward a bit to come back down. Do not move from your place in line. Ready? Go

Puck couldn’t exactly pull off the standard ‘thrill of the wind in my hair’ sort of image, both because there was no wind and because he had very little hair, but Kurt could see the potential.
I don't know why but I found this line the most hilarious thing ever. ALL THE LOVE.

I'm going off the Harry Potter books, in which just about all of the 11-year-old characters sound older than they are. It fits into the world a little better. (And some of it is because she's very specifically trying to sound older.)
In any case, Santana is far from the main focus of this verse, so hopefully you will like future parts better!
