So we're up to date.  The PTA is entirely teacher-run, and the teachers have just been elected to a second term.  But you know what?  It's still my kid's school, I still have good relationships with the other parents I've met in PTA, and -- call me crazy -- I still have that hankerin' to do stuff.  I guess I'm just a fucking glutton for punishment ( Read more... )

I used to be the PTA Rebel. Now I have been reduced to nothing but a hollow shell of my former self.

The PTA has finally beaten me down. They have totally broken my spirit. In short, they have won.

This morning at school, the rubbery surface under the play equipment was covered with frost.  Almost the whole thing was white, making it look as if it had snowed.  Of course, it was just a .25 mm thick coating of ice crystals, but for California kids, the effect was impressive ( Read more... )

Last week, we had a school earthquake drill, and the principal and vice principal came to me (and a few other parents) and asked us to "create some drama" by playing the role of anxious parents who were coming to campus to retrieve their children.

More parents are being alienated on our campus by our new "safety first" principal.   There's a guy who's been a fixture on campus, not in PTA, but as a classroom volunteer.  He's on campus all of the time, because he works nights, and he's well known and liked ( Read more... )
