and, dancey bits

IU's paper published an article on me and my dance troupe today... and it's actually not too bad. I've come to have really low expectations for anything that goes into newspaper print, mostly due to horrendous experiences of being mis-quoted, mis-treated, having things published without my permissions, and so on. But this article seems... insipid ( Read more... )

Well, it didn't suck, which is doing pretty well for the IDS! I'm glad they had more quotes from the troupe, rather than one or two and a lot of the reporter writing, "This is what I think they are all about..." going on.

Yep, I am pretty happy with the "it didn't suck" part, which may seem pessimistic, but ah well. :)

I picked up a bunch of copies of the paper in case we need to keep some for troupe archives. :)

Ooooh! Can't wait to meet you in person!

Congrats on the "insipid" article. Yup, that's about the best you can expect from the media.

I agree on the "Can't wait to meet you in person" part! :D

And yeah, I'm just thankful that this journalist didn't try to explain the sensuous appeal of the dance or anything, though she did get a tad fixated on us wearing heavy hip belts in order to get a better workout (?!).

glad to see you are keeping busy. you are the most loquacious poster on my list. i've been in hermit mode, which includes having no motivation to read anything new. read ender's game again [18th time by my count], re reading harry potter 7 as well. strange.

but i will certainly respond to your response to my response to your essay fragment before christmas. and comments on your other writings will also be forthcoming.

i previse your antiphon colloquy, as well. cheers.

Ooh, I still need to read HP 7... I plan on doing that during winter break, after rereading book 6 to refresh my memory.

Any comments on my writing are always welcome... not only do I like hearing other people's ideas, but I also like getting a sense of how clearly my own ideas are coming through.

i previse your antiphon colloquy

I'm sorry, I have no idea what that means.

At least they didn't muck up any factual bits? But yeah, I'm always amused that every newspaper article takes the tactic of treating bellydancing as this strange, new phenomenon performed by females from outer space...nevermind it's been going on for centuries and whatnot.

Which reminds me, I've been in an academic fog and totally forgot to reply to your email. But if you need another subject to interview, I'd be happy to participate (this being a holiday week, I actually have time to reply to email and stuff). And I am totally checking out that book for my Orientalism paper...

And I will see you at Gothla. Yay!

Haha, yeah, I kinda feel like I'm disappointing the masses by being a fairly well integrated member of society who does belly dance, not some strange social outcast!

I would love to have you respond to some questions for my paper... I will shoot you an e-mail at your Gmail address unless you tell me otherwise. Thanks!
