Not much, no, but I suppose this is as good a time as any to start! Out with the old and in with the new; it's the perfect time to embark on a new project, I think.

Goodness, I can hardly believe it's come on so fast. Where did all the time go?

It really does seem as though it's getting faster all the time, doesn't it? It's such a strange feeling! As though we're all rushing along, and it's trying to keep up with us while we're at it.

Well, if it is that clock, better it's going faster than winding down into nothing at all, I suppose. Still, is it really almost three years for you now? Your anniversary is...April, isn't it?

Yes, I do hope you won't feed me to Ellington this year.

Well, perhaps you ought to stop being so insufferable, and I won't have to threaten to.

I'm not sure I can stop being so insufferable. From the way you've put it, that's rather like asking me to stop breathing.

Then I suppose you'll just have to hope that I manage to keep to my resolution, won't you?

I rather have, haven't I? But it's good to be busy, I think. Far moreso than just sitting around being idle, certainly.

[Carla offers a tense, bitter little smile as she agrees,]

Idleness is madness.

[It had been a mantra of hers, for years. Confined inside with no one to talk to and nothing of value to do, she had taken to doing puzzles on the cold stone floor of the warehouse.]

[Okay, that's...a bit unsettling, that smile and that tone, but she's going to assume it'd be impolite to press it, and just smooth things over as cheerfully as she can.]

And around here, especially, with the ticking of the clock and all when one is alone. But really, there are so many lovely things to do and so many ways to keep occupied that it isn't difficult at all to stay busy, really.

It's the strangest thing, isn't it? But they do it somehow, and I haven't the slightest idea how they manage it!
