Fucking idiotic. Why would anyone want to own this place anyway?... I see there's no shortage of new people, too.

Hmn. I've had my fill of this place's weird tricks, too.

Well, here's a question for you, Discedo -- for those of you who live in worlds with other forms of alchemy fucked up physics that don't make logical sense ...magic, what is it ( Read more... )

surrounded by idiots, not a disco ball, not fucking around now, ed is an idiot, magic goes where?, bad idea is really really bad, no more funny business, haet discedo

Hm... there's that word again, magic. I am a scientist. In my world there exists science, of course there are several things that you might label impossible. Like the Juraian space trees.

And of course there are energy weapons.. The science of my world is complex.

Oh, I'm Little Washu by the way, who are you?

Hrm. It's not something I'm used to by any means and I'll admit, I'm reluctant to even accept it. But after everything I've seen here, hell if I'm ruling anything out. Admittedly, I'm curious about the whole idea. If I can figure out how some of it works and use it with my own alchemy, the results could be interesting. Profitable, maybe.

... Juraian space trees?

Edward Elric. Nice to meet you Washu.

I'd like to figure out how your...magic? Alchemy? Works from a scientific point of view myself. If I can break it down, perhaps I can reproduce it in my lab to some extent.

Yes. Juraian Space Trees. The best way to describe them is a life form that has a symbiotic relationship with the Juraian Royal family to some extent. The Space trees develop to become living wooden spaceships.

Alchemy is a science. It relies on the values of chemistry --at least, chemistry in my world-- in order to identify and change the properties of an item. Identify the materials, deconstruct them and then reconstruct them into something else.

I see. So they're...

I guess it couldn't hurt...

To use magic I need ofuda.

What are ofuda?

They're... paper seals. The Chinese calligraphy drawn on them tells what each is for. There are so many different kinds... But the ones I use are

Ka - fire
Rei - lightning
Fuka - wind
Sui - water

...understand?

Paper... I see. So it's a visual charm that summons a certain energy? Sounds similar to a transmutation circle, in theory. Can they be combined to form different symbols and types, as well?

Magic?

Well in my world it's quite complex. Select families are born with a 'magic circuit' which gives magi their abilities. These abilities are also limited by the magic circuit. I guess...You could compare it to an electrical circuit. The circuit can be strong, weak, or even hard to 'switch on' and off.

It's inherited, I guess?

Hmn. It does sound complex. So this circuit is a control, from the sound of it -- how does it work?

If I remember right... magic is a... power source. Like, the lights and stoves and stuff are powered by magic. I don't know where it comes FROM though. I never asked.

...Is everything in your world powered by magic? Huh. Alchemy was pretty prominent in Amestris, but at least we had electricity for lights and things like that.

I don't know. A lot of stuff was but, I don't think everything...

I guess it'd be a lot to depend on one source of power for energy. What else does it do? How does it work?

In Ivalice, magic must be purchased. However, it cannot be used by the owner unless they have acquired the particular licence enabling them to do so.

...You have to have a license to use-- Well that's...pretty ridiculous. No offense. Does the magic work even when you're not in your own world?

None taken. It has always been the way of things. Yes, it does work here, to an extent. My magic is still effective, as I have not lost my licences, though not quite as powerful as it would be in Ivalice.

Hmm. So just about anyone can use it, if they have the, err. Licenses. And if you didn't have the licenses, you wouldn't be able to use it here either?
