Quick update + a question

At long, long last my doctor told me the final results on my toxoplasmosis retest today, and they were good -- it looks like I had it years ago, which is nothing to worry about. It sucks that I had to wait a month to hear that, but it's better than waiting a month and finding out I got it during pregnancy ( Read more... )

Fetal weight ultrasounds are frequently off, so I wouldn't put too much faith in it. I had one done the day before my son was born, and the tech said he was 9 lbs, 11oz. He was born the next day weighing 8lbs, 15oz, so it was almost a pound off.

Yeah, I've heard they're off a lot -- I was just trying to find out exactly how far off. If it's a pound off at term, I can only imagine how far off a projection at 33 weeks would be. Thanks.

U/S can be off +/- 2 pounds from what I have researced. One of the OB's I met with said its off by just =/-1 lb when I asked him. I actually had an U/S today and they said she weighs about 5lbs 9ozs and I am 35wks 3 days.

Thanks. I wonder if I might be closer to 35 weeks than 33 ... my dude date based on LMP was May 27, but it got moved based on a dating ultrasound.

It might be. My due date is May 26 based off my LMP and also my U/S. I have had 4 U/S (tested positive for GD so the doctors are concerned about the baby getting too big)so far.

Well, you just made my day with this post! I am excited for you!!!

:-)

THe 30 week ultrasound is not terribly predictive. First of all, it can be off by quite a bit (+/- 15% at this point). Secondly, babies grow non-linearly. THirdly, you may deliver at 38 weeks or at 41 weeks. LEt your baby grow, you will not grow a baby larger than you can deliver. Good luck!

I'm glad I made someone's day :-)! It's also interesting to hear exactly how far off the doctor's guess would be ... it sounds like given the fudge factor, basically all we can say from his projection is that the baby will be somewhere between seven and ten pounds if I go to term. Which I could have told you.

I'm actually not that worried about birthing a big baby. My brother was 10 lb. (two weeks past due) and, while it wasn't exactly fun for my mom, she came through it okay, and I'm sure I would too.
