I know my sister that had her baby in January, only the partner & grandparents were allowed to go see the baby & mother at the hospital, not even siblings.. because of the flu outbreak.. I really hope that's GONE by JUNE when I have my baby, cos I'll be in the same boat as you.. Unless my mom comes up from another state..
If I was closer and not a total stranger, I would help ya.. if worst comes to worst, you can try care.com, get a babysitter.. how far is the hospital from the school, if they can still go to school, that would be great.. if they're school kids, maybe ask a friend's parent, if the child can "spend the night" for a night or two.. i thought about that as well with my oldest, so she doesn't miss school at least.. in my case, the hospital is 30 minutes away in another city..
My four year old very much wanted to watch my last baby being born but my hospital forbade it. She would have sat in the armchair in the corner of the room patiently as she did at all the appointments she went to but wasn't allowed. My husband brought the kids into the room while a nurse was holding her inside until a doctor got there and they literally had to wait five minutes outside until she was born and the placenta was out before coming back in. Definitely check with not only your doctor but also with the hospital to see if siblings are allowed in the delivery room.
