Unfortunately Zofran will not help with acid reflux vomiting. Doesn't that suck so hard? I've thrown up from acid reflux multiple times during this pregnancy- all the while I've been on Zofran ( ... )

Oh also, I'd start taking brand name Zantac again if you can, and up your dose. I take 300mg a day of that stuff (doctor approved) and for a long time I didn't think it was really doing anything, and then I ran out the other day and almost died of my insides being chemically burned (only a small exaggeration.)

I second the brand-name Zantac suggestion. I switched from Zantac to the Walgreen's version and the Walgreen's version blows.

Are you still on your zofran? I am, at 38 weeks. A super low dose (2mg twice a day) but I just can't go completely off it, and it is annoying. Every time I skip it I get sick!

I answered down below but I wanted to also second the gaviscon, either the liquid or tablets can really instantly soothe.

I want to second the papaya enzymes. I was taking Tums for awhile, but they're really hard on the kidneys and my kidney levels in blood results this pregnancy have been a little funky. I didn't want to try papaya again because it used to upset my stomach (I have celiac disease and found that some of them have wheat in it). But I've been living off the papaya enzyme tablets for the last couple weeks. You can't overdo them, and if I take them with meals and as soon as I feel any signs of heartburn, I'm not waking up after inhaling stomach acid anymore. (I'm 38w5d)

I love Gaviscon, I was so happy when I found out I could take it while pregnant. While Zantac is great, Gaviscon feels like it's fixing the burning feeling in my throat too.

Tums have never sat well with me (I never knew they were hard on your kidneys, I wonder if that's why...)

If it is that bad can you ask your doctor for an RX heartburn medication? I was on prevacid (I have GERD normally) for my whole first pregnancy, in addition to zantac and tums. They all work differently so ok to take together.

A few other things:

watch what you eat, certain foods trigger it. For me Alcohol (obviously not drinking while pregnant), coffee, are the worst offenders, with occassional tomato based products (especially bbq) and orange juice affecting me. Other people have issues with caffine, pickled things, spicy, fatty foods, etc.

Don't eat w/i 2 hrs of sleeping. I know that wouldn't be easy if you are on bed rest but it does help.

Eat smaller portions at a time. Also a pain.

Zofran didn't help my reflux. What helped WAS Zantac (brand or generic), but 150, twice a day religiously. My ob said often 75 isn't enough to do anything, and that taking it consistently works much better, and she was right. I only occasionally get reflux now, usually after eating something spicy.

Me too. I was finally able to sleep horizontally after a solid month of dozing propped up by pillows.
