Okay, so I've been scheduled an induction date of June 8th (Tuesday). And I'm kind of freaking out about it. And I have a few annoying questions and hopefully I can get some answers to calm my nerves
( Read more... )
a.) I was induced at 38 wks 1 day at no dilation, no contractions, no blood pressure or distress problems. I was in labor for 28 hours. I was induced with Cytotec first, then the balloon, then Pitocin that was gradually upped. Parts of it did hurt...but nothing that I needed an epi for until my water was manually broken, then the contractions were fierce. After that was epidural, plus 3 refills b/c it kept wearing off.
b.) Find your voice. If you don't want something or unsure about it, dont' take it. Make them tell you ALL the risks, not just "sign here please". Everything carries risks, those are just conveniently skimmed over when a woman is in labor.
c.) My induction led to a csection. Don't know how often that happens, like statistics or whatever.
Everyone is different. I was induced at 41 weeks with my first, and it went fine. Went in at 7:00am I think? I was already dilated to 3cm upon arrival (up from 2cm two days before) and having painless, but effective contractions. Pitocin started by 10, waters broken at noon, epidural by 1, started pushing at 4:30, had her out by 6:04. I didn't really experience the super painful pitocin contractions. They offered the epidural after 3 hours and I took it lol. Before that my contractions were comparable to labor at 6-7cm with my second.
During pushing the doctor and nurses will tell you what to do. Usually it's hold and push for 10 seconds, breathe out, take another breath and push again for 10 seconds...then you rest until the next contraction. During labor I would concentrate on a spot in the room and concentrate on breathing in and out slowly so I wouldn't freak out.
I was induced with my first child. I'll be honest, when my doc first told me about the induction it scared me because I was going to be three weeks early. And because, since I wasn't going to go into labor naturally, that I didn't know what to expect. But in the end, it all turned out ok
