For those of you who have dopplers at home..This may be a stupid question, but how do you know it is your baby's heart beat and not yours? I have never used or seen one before, but am thinking about getting one!

The baby's heartrate is usually faster. I was at 135 BPM at 17w6d

It's pretty obvious which is which. Yours will be much slower and not fluctuate too much whereas the baby (when you can catch it, lol) is going to be much faster. My son's heartrate has always been above 150, quite a difference to my 90s at the highest. It sounds kind of like a gallop how fast it goes. I love my doppler, one of the best investments I made this pregnancy.

The baby's heartbeat is faster. Yours is less than 100 beats/minute unless you've been jogging, but baby's is around 150.

(Someone below said the baby's heartbeat is lower, but the problem is you can run into stuff from your blood flow that sounds like a heart beat via the doppler, so you can't judge by placement. First time the midwife looked for my daughter's heartbeat, all she found was me, but it sounded heart-beat-like to my uneducated ears.)

Geting a fetoscope is much cheaper and you can hear the baby at 18+weeks.

One of my friends has this $70 one, and I'm planning on getting it too when I'm a bit further along!
