First of all, I let it slip to my mom that I couldn't afford the Hypnobabies study (she and my dad like to buy us everything we can't, and I hate it) and she ordered it for me. I'm extremely thankful! It should be here around Friday. I must admit though, it still makes me feel bad that she bought it ( Read more... )

The vaccinations are absolutely NOT mandatory in CA. I've had two babies in southern CA now, and it's always been optional :) Some hospitals will want you to sign a waiver saying you refused them, but don't let them try to scare tactic you into giving them if you don't want to.

Thank you!! I had read a while back that in only 2 states do you have to vaccinate your child at all, but California hadn't been one of them.

Don't worry, scare tactics won't work. I've read from way too many women that they were bullied into choices. I decided to get as educated as I could and, if they still want to push me, go to court or go unassisted. I refuse to let anyone but my husband and myself make decisions for our child!

Hospitals are required by law to offer vitamin K and vaccinations, but you are not required to accept them. It is mandatory to have your child vaccinated for daycare and public schools, but there are exemptions you can file for.

I have a Maya ring sling and had a Moby. I loved both of them, but didn't really get to use them a whole lot. I just don't get out much or need one for much other than housecleaning.

If your diapers have snaps in 3 rows across the front of the diaper, it's possible they are one size. Those will be roomy on a newborn, but fit great by 3 weeks. I really like to use newborn sized fitteds and flat prefolds with covers when baby is tiny, then go to the one sized diapers and pockets.

Really? I had read that only private instiutions, like private colleges and schools and such, could legally mandate you to vaccinate your child. All you had to do was get your child tested for the disease he/she was not being vaccinated before at the given intervals of each state (usually every 6 months or a year) and have a doctor sign a waiver stating that your child was clear ( ... )

It sounds like the diapers are plain old prefolds, which are not bad if they are diaper service quality. They are huge on newborns, but great for older babies. http://pinstripesandpolkadots.com/products/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1195&idcategory=4... )

Just adding that pinstripesandpolkadots is an awesome site. The lady that runs it is really nice, and they ship really fast. There are a ton of great resources on there too for learing about cloth diapering.

jilliansdrawers.com has a "convert to cloth" trial pack that I got when I was pregnant with DS. For $100-something, you get a box of like a dozen types of diapers. You get to try them for 3 weeks and send back whatever you don't like (and you only pay $10 plus what the diapers you keep cost...you get refunded for the ones you send back). It's a great way to see and touch and use all the differnt styles and brands. I highly recommend it.

CA laws regarding vaccines: http://www.nvic.org/Vaccine-Laws/state-vaccine-requirements/california.aspx

for sling questions and browsing, come hang out in babywearer! we have a bunch of different types of carriers, including a moby wrap and a ring sling, and i like them all for different stages and ways of carrying. i've actually never had much luck nursing in either of those two carriers, but i was able to nurse in pouches and mei tais very easily. :)

what kind of cloth diaper is it?

Thank you so much!! I seriously love when I get linked to a site, soooo much easier than trying to search for it (I only have internet on my phone).

I joined the community :).

I have no clue what the diapers are, I haven't seen labels on any of them. She just handed me a several gallon bag worth of them and I was so stoked, until 6 months later. I just opened them to get them washed and tried folding them every which way but seriously didn't find a way that would fit a tiny baby.

Well, turns out it's not. So, I have a referral for a surgeon when I am 2 weeks post-partum to get a colonoscopy and a few other things. NOT looking forward to it. Until then, she's got me stocked up on fiber and stool softeners.I had a colonscopy back in May, it freaked me out when I got sent the Fleet (bowel cleanse stuff) in the mail and I flat out denied it to myself that it was happening until the day before it was happening...and even then I was sure I wasn't going to go through with it ( ... )
