Ultrasound....

How soon did you all see the sac or your baby or anything pertaining to your pregnancy on ultrasound? I read that it's possible to see "the sac" at 5 1/2 weeks and a baby at 6? We saw the sac and I'm going back on Monday for a repeat so my due date can be more accurate, but now I'm kinda hoping I'll see a lil baby in there. Is this true? Also, I ( Read more... )

i don't think a retroverted uterus is a reason for a c-section.

Nothing at about 4 weeks, sac at about 5 weeks, "baby" (which was basically a couple of blobs with a beating heart) at 6 weeks, baby-looking type thing with arms and legs and such at 10 weeks.

HCG levels can vary, but I was probably around where you were or a little higher at around 5 weeks. According to my OB until the HCG levels are 2,000+ they basically won't be able to see anything on ultrasound. I'd guess you're around 5 weeks along, but the next ultrasound will help them be more accurate.

Also, according to the nurse who taught our labor and delivery class a retroverted uterus SHOULDN'T affect the birth, since things grow and change so much during the pregnancy so it shouldn't really be tilted anymore when the delivery comes along. (Although she wasn't 100% sure, but it was a question that was asked).

ok so not seeing anything but a sac at 4 weeks 5 days should be ok? when i got back i'll be 5 weeks 5 days so i should be able to see more? should i expect a heartbeat since its so close to six weeks or no?

I think so. I'd have to go through a lot of math and calculations to figure out the EXACT dates of when I had those ultrasounds, especially since my dates weren't determined until after they were all done. I just know I went in when I *thought* I was around 6 weeks along (based on LMP, although my cycles have always been screwy) and the first go-round they saw NOTHING. And I had two more ultrasounds, about a week apart each (give or take) and the second one they saw the sac and the third one they saw the baby and the heartbeat. And, at the end of all that I was 6-1/2 weeks pregnant and the three ultrasounds all lined up with each other for the dates. The really good news for you is that because they will have 2 ultasounds relatively early and relatively close together they should be able to give you a pretty good idea of what your due date is based off of them.

theoretically, you can see the heartbeat as early as 4.5 weeks, but most of the people I've talked to disagree. by 6 weeks you should see the sac, at least, sometimes with a little bean (doesn't look like a baby yet) inside. The thing you'll see the earliest is the yolk sac.

I don't know about the HCG, but I think it's more about how fast it's going up...

So many women have retroverted uteruses...uteri? that I don't think it makes a difference for most of them. The only difference for ultrasound is that we can't see as much when we scan your abdomen. A lot of times (especially for early pregnancy) the tech will do an endovaginal ultrasound. Good luck!

if they do an endovaginal ultrasound then, yeah, you should be able to. of course it depends on the machine and the position of the baby, and the tech...so nothing's for sure. I do know that the HCG doubling is a really good sign. :)

they did a transvaginal but no heartbeat or baby yet. they guessed 5w3d-5w5d. so next time i go back in 2 1/2 weeks we should see baby and heartbeat!

I didn't get an ultrasound until yesterday, at about 8 1/2 weeks, but we saw the heartbeat and the baby very clearly.
