Day 6: Sexual Assault (warning: link may be triggering for some)

totally girly tea party/carnation stripey toe-up socks, in Knitpicks Stroll Carnation and Stroll Handpaint Tea Party.

These socks are pretty similar to my socks from the other day- instead of the afterthought heel, these use a standard short-row heel. The basics are all the same, because they give me a really good-fitting sock. These ones are a little bit snazzier.

I wanted to use up the leftovers from the Baby Surprise Jacket I made for my cousin Danyka, so I bought a coordinating yarn to use for the toes/heels/cuff. Normally I would have gone for brown, but I went off-script when buying, and got the pink instead. Whatever, they'll be in my shoes, right? So I cast of for the first, and immediately one of my friends went "you're knitting with pink? I'm impressed!" so... yep. Pink was the right choice, if only for the conversation fodder whenever I pulled it out.

Back when I was working in Lac du Bonnet, I made a similar pair with green toes/heels/cuffs and knit the foot and leg in straight stockinette, and still had lots of yarn left over from one skein, so I had an idea of how much that took and looked at what I had in the handpain and realized nope, not happening. But if I striped it... it would also keep the colours from pooling.

I wanted a bit more variety than a simple 2/2 ratio of stripes in the pink and multi, so I went with 2/3. Crazy, I know. *eyeroll* But it was enough variety that I actually had to pay a wee bit of attention to it now and then, without having a larger row that would cause a bit of a tension problem like I'd had with another pair of striped socks I'd done earlier.

When I got to the heel, I waited until I'd knit one row of pink before starting the heel. Then, once it was done I did another row of pink. It's a little detail that really would have made no difference whatsover, but made me feel hella-ever when I was doing it. I continued up the leg until I hit my usual spot of where I want to end my socks, and then switched to the pink for an inch of 2/2 ribbing, then did a sewn bind off.

I like these socks a lot. I took them with me everywhere for a while, even if they didn't get knit particularly quickly.

The cat remains unimpressed.
