This weekend I: missed a happy hour because I was still at work; went to a basketball game; got a box of energy-saving lighting accessories (e.g., light bulbs) at said basketball game (yeah, I don't know either); got home waaaaay too late; slept in waaaaay too long; mailed stuff; picked up boxes of books (and a birdhouse for grandma) from our ( Read more... )

I made bread and macaroni and cheese from scratch and learned how to use some new writing software (instead of actually writing anything) and watched Fringe until I got distracted by the amount of time it wasn't taking these people to drive from Boston to NYC and back again and had some naps and read a book and watched a couple of ridiculous shark attack movies (and remembered why I don't like the ocean) and watched the dessert Top Chef (and remembered that I hate everyone on it and want to feed them to sharktopus) and did laundry and cleaned the kitchen and shopped for a new bookshelf and continued to fail at actually buying one and next weekend I'll probably be eaten by the shelfless books that are taking over my apartment.

Huh. I, too, hate everyone on dessert Top Chef and will likely be eaten by shelfless books. Marbles is lobbying for more bookshelves; apparently she will be expanding our apartment with...wait for it...magic.

I continue to fear bread-making. Quick breads are fine, but yeast is scary!

S11 staff shirt should have a lady sharktopus. Really.

I love watching Phil. One of my favourite Sunday evening rituals and a large part of the reason that I want to get on that show.

AH. BAKERY BOOKSTORE COMBO. Not going to lie, that is totally a cracky dream of mine but it would just be combining two of my favourite things: baked goods and books.

My weekend was boring. I cleaned my mother's garage, wrote a whole bunch, explained the differences between Facebook/Twitter/a blog to some senior citizens, watched Disney movies and cried, was sick and went to a meat raffle.

Your weekend was not boring! It involved the mysterious words "meat raffle."

I think you should not encourage this bookstore/bakery idea. I do not want to get up at 3:00 every morning and make pie and cupcakes. Marbles's plan is that we hire our mothers to do it and, if possible, THAT IS EVEN WORSE.

Meat raffles are a truly strange and wondrous British tradition that has seized hold in the north central US (namely, Minnesota, Wisconsin, parts of Illinois & Indiana). Oh look a wiki article!

HAHAH Yeah DO NOT get mothers involved. It gets complicated fast.

I went hiking on Mt. Hood, and hid in a tree from a bear. I rafted out and then parasailed down to Portland on the Columbia, where I held court at Powell's before retreating to McMennamin's for a big platter of fried calamari with three kinds of dipping sauce.

The next day, I flew kites and ate saltwater taffy in Seaside and then drove down 101 until I hit Devil's Punchbowl. I got sand between my toes on rock beach and roasted hot dogs over a bonfire before crawling into my tent in the redwoods.

HOT DOGS. I ♥ hot dogs. :D

Also, you have reminded me to convince vlamidala that we should run Hood to Coast in 2012. I think I need to borrow your brother for this. And you to man the the first van, which I am christening Astropod 1.

I love that you ignore that I made that all up.

I have cousins, too.

Made all what up? *whistles*

How handy. I shall have to collect the set.

How could you possibly ignore the fact that I HAVE NAMED YOUR RENTAL VAN ASTROPOD 1?

Heh.

This weekend I catered a last-minute funeral reception for 400 people, did all the Sunday bulletins, sang in small ensemble, went to a friend's for dinner and brought dessert, and finished a book for Wizards of the Coast.

Wow, that's an up-and-down weekend. I hope everything went okay -- and yay for the book! That's awesome!
