3486: Mystery Girl at Hogwarts - Kagome

Don't forget about Tropes Sue Week either. I'm looking for help finding entries for said week. I'm also looking for some feedback on this.

I went through all of the characters for the particular voice actress the week is featured around and find myself ending the week with another Kagome fanfic.

I doubt going into the story lacking confidence in what they were doing helped once they got said review. I'm not sure if they wouldn't have reacted the same way had someone pointed out the fact she wouldn't be starting late like she was, let alone getting a letter from Japan. I would have likely though worded it as a "you forgot this" rather then a "do not do". She's be writing a very different story had she remembered.

Pairings though are a part of a writer's style. A writer is going to lean towards certain pairings. Practically every pairing out there is possible if the writer puts enough effort into said pairing. A bigger issue is whether the writer would have kept the characters in character, and whether the writer rushed the characters falling in love with each other. She wasn't even given the chance to get that far.

On the one hand, the review is somewhat rude and overly critical... but on the other hand, I think the Suethor overreacted. It isn't that bad; it's not a personal attack and it even says that the story seems interesting. I understand feeling discouraged, but if one bad review is enough to stop you from continuing the story, then maybe you're not ready to publish it online.

While I think you're right about not being ready to publish online, I also think this is a case where a younger writer felt they were told they weren't allowed to write what they wanted and that's why they were discouraged.

I wouldn't say discouraged is the right word for this scenario. Having worked with a few young writers who stopped writing after being told their pairing is a no go I can say that's not what they're feeling. I think the better word is confusion.
