And people wonder why the argument that anything goes in fanfiction doesn't work as an argument... this entire piece screams original work.

While the anonymous reviewer didn't need to use the language they did I've always found works that do go this AU to be insulting to not just the original creator but the person doing the writing. If you're creative enough to come up with something this original, why aren't you writing original fiction. Some AUs don't honestly work without the canon characters, but this... this one isn't one of those. That author's note chapter also really bothers me.

These are "year chapters" and are meant to skip over dialogue that isn't relative to important events. It is going to only be like this for now.Um... here's the thing. You shouldn't be just covering the important events. Just because something isn't a major event, or one of the important events doesn't mean it isn't important to the story. A writer needs to progress from one important event to another, not just throw them at the reader. Otherwise ( ... )

At first I was dumbfounded of Minerva McGonagall femmeslash, especially if she has to be a part of, not love triangle, but love quintuple(!) with her past and current students (plus Fleur).
......
After a long moment with brain bleach, I came to decision that professor McGonagall deserves more love. She rocks! And she is widow so she's free to have some mature romance in her life. Just pretty please, don't pair her with her teenager students. That's gross. And Dumbledore is off limits too, for obvious reasons. I suppose I have to to dredge up the Pit if there are any good Minerva fics.

Hermione's harem aside (it isn't reverse harem , is it?) there isn't much originality. It feels like a mismatch of crossovers, allusions and clichés from western fantasy stock.

Yes. McGongall does need more loving, but not the type that puts her into a bad light!

A harem for females is called a reverse harem. And yeah... it does feel very mismatched on the writers part.

Interesting. I always thought that a reverse harem means a group of gorgeous males flocking around a single female, and a basic harem refers to a group of women. This harem is intended for Hermione, but it consists of women, so I see it as a basic harem. Participants' genders vs. receiver's gender -- I guess meaning-making depends on one's point of view.

Lol! By that logic any anime that is composed of an all female cast could be called a harem despite the fact there is no male that the females are romantically attached to. Actually, I get what your saying. I think there is an actual term for harems consisting of the same gender though, but its been awhile since I've seen said term. I've seen male characters whose harem consists of having a male among the female and I've seen female characters whose reverse harem consists of having one female characters among the male. In the long run its a good question really.
