On the contrary. Ron was there, he'd been there the entire time, but -- sleeping. The sounds of Hermione's set-up did little to wake him; he'd been known for sleeping through everything as a child, the trend only changing when anything could happen in the night, and lately he'd been getting back into the habit of becoming a stone every night. What did wake him in the end was a loud car alarm from somewhere down the street; why it should was anyone's guess, really, but it also happened to remind him of the party. He clamored down the stairs, which sounded nearly like they were going to collapse in on themselves, and was nearly floored at the amount of color Hermione had managed. Never in his wild dreams did he really think Grimmauld would look like a real carnival, but it was sort of on its way. He even found himself grinning widely for all of a moment, until noticing the girl responsible; and of course she looked sullen, which made him simultaneously trip over himself and lose the grin completely.

"Er. Hi."

Hermione considered creating illusions of animals as well, carnivals had animals, didn't they? Great big elephants and ostriches wearing funny hats. But then, who needed elephants when the sound of Ronald coming down the stairs was its own stampede?

It surprised her -- she hadn't expected him to be at home, though on second thought, Hermione ought to have checked before setup. Stupid. Utterly foolish. What if Harry had been here? Idiot, Hermione, idiot. Well, in the end, all that frustration managed to find its way to Ron, and an irritated scowl replaced her listless expression. He looked rumpled -- more-so than usual, hair sticking at quite a few more angles than normal. She got to her feet. Dour.

"Glad to see you decided to show up."

"I was always here," said Ron, furrowing his brow. "You should've woken me ( ... )

"Haven't seen him."

There. Curtly, Hermione turned around, heading into the living room to set Harry's present on the brightly-lavished coffee table. Snacks had been set up in the dining room, set atop a large table that looked fit to burst, groaning under the weight. The irony wasn't lost on her that when she'd made the all the fuss about pleasant attitudes and general cheerfulness, it was her mood that ended up the most sour. Stupid Draco. Stupid Draco and his stupid flat and his possessiveness and his unfounded jealousy! So she'd say.

She came back to Ron, at the base of the stairs, and folded her arms. "Well? What did you get him?" A glance at the large, ticking clock. Fifteen to six. Guests were due to show up any minute now. She hoped.

Nev wasn't sure how many other folks had been invited, but figured he'd bring a bag of crips and a small case of ale just in case. Never was good to run out of food at a party. He had drawn a blank on what to get Harry, so instead made up a voucher for a day's worth of free gardening and landscaping. Hermione had asked him a while back if he could help them with the gardens and greenhouse space at Grimmauld Place, but they'd never connected on it.

He knocked and stuck his head inside, wondering if he was early.

A moment later Ron ran onto the scene, looking a very interesting shade of red; that paired with the fact that he hadn't gotten a chance to freshen up after his nap made him... Well, something of a mess. Luckily Neville was used to that sort of thing from Ron; he hadn't cared much for his appearance at Hogwarts, and that hadn't completely changed.

"Neville, hullo!" The words were loud, and jolly; almost as if he weren't on the verge of having his head torn off.

"You --"

Hermione gaped, her mouth opening and closing fish-like as she stared at Ron.

"You what?" There was this sudden, dull ringing in her ears that blocked out the sound of a knock at the door, and Hermione wasn't sure if she'd gone pale or bright red with anger. Of course, the moment her senses came about her, Hermione was storming after Ron, to the front door, shouting all the while.

"Of all the -- the simplest tasks. The simplest thing I ask you to do and you -- oh." Hermione stopped at the door, noticing the new arrival and deeming him harmless. "Hello Neville. Glad to see you!" Reaching out, she wrapped her arms around him. "Happy birthday to you as well!" Then, she gave Ron that look that said they were far from finished with this conversation.

Neville blinked at Hermione, reminded of the bickering she and Ron had done at Hogwarts. It had been a while since he's seen them go at it but since they were shelving it on his arrival, he played along.

"Hello Hermione. Good seeing you again." He patted her back as she hugged him. "Thanks. When will Harry be here?" He'd much rather the attention be on him, really.

Ginny didn't knock when she arrived at Grimmauld. Instead she walked in, looking from Ron and Hermione, and to Neville. "Hi," she said cheerily. "Happy Birthday, Nev," she told him, giving him a hug. It looked like it was going to be one of those days with Ron and Hermione.

Though still somewhat gaping at Ron (when wasn't she?) Hermione reached out and wrapped Ginny in a tight, welcoming hug. "Ginny please tell me you spoke with your family about the party."

Nev grinned at Ginny, giving her a squeeze and stepping back for Hermione to rather throw herself at the youngest Weaseley. "Think I'll just be over here." He said cheerfully, moving out of the entry.

Ginny turned to Hermione after hugging Neville. "I'd mentioned it to Mum, yeah. Why?" she asked.

Lee arrived carrying a two deli trays; one with vegetables and dip and the other with cheese, meats and crackers. "All right, food and I am here." Walking into the house, he smiled at Ginny and Neville.

"Hermione, where would you like this?"

"Lee!" Hermione looked quickly at the clock. They still had time before Harry arrived, and hopefully that might allow time for the rest of the Weasleys to show. She did beam at the food, knowing that when Seamus and the rest of them arrived, much of what she'd brought herself would quickly disappear. "If you could just set it in the living room on the table with the presents that would be wonderful."

"Yes, ma'am," he said with a smile. He took the trays to the living room and dropped them off. Once the food was delivered, he waved to Ron before crossing over to Hermione, greeting her with a kiss on the cheek.

"So when do we expect the birthday boy? Got Fireworks to make the surprise part louder."

"Harry will be by after seeing Teddy." She smiled at the little kiss before fluttering off to fix some decorations in last-minute fussiness. "Fireworks, though?" At this, she looked wary. "If you're sure. Though I won't be held to blame if you set the place on fire."

Dennis arrived a little late; he lost his shirt as he apparated to apparation point. After stopping to purchase a new shirt, he practically ran to the address on the invitation. Dennis brought some ice cream and a dragon's tooth for Harry.

Stepping into the flat he waved. "Hiya!"

Hermione greeted him with a smile and a wave in return. "Dennis! So glad you could make it." So alright, he was a bit on the late side, but the important thing was that Harry hadn't arrived yet. "And you brought ice cream! Brilliant, I'll take that." She hefted the container into her arms and scurried back, into the kitchen, touching up things along the way that really didn't need to be fixed, but as Hermione was in a particularly fussy mood, nothing was safe.

He smiled. "thanks for inviting me. I feel like I haven't seen anyone in ages. How are you?" he asked, following slightly behind her as she took the ice cream from his arms.

"I didn't know what people would like, so I just got vanilla and chocolate."

"You and me both." Though spoken with a laugh, there was a little scoff hidden in the words. Hermione truly hadn't seen anyone in ages. She'd been so wrapped up in her boyfriend and the novelty of living with someone, and then it had been work and charms and such-like. She was just glad to be out of the house.

"Thanks, Dennis." She set the ice cream on the table, considering spelling it to keep it cool, but decided otherwise. "You really shouldn't have. But -- " Another pleasant grin, "I'm not going to complain that you did."
