LJ policy clarification

Aug 08, 2007 00:07

Livejournal and Six Apart have clarified their position regarding underage works of art here.

it says content must be reported so the only way someone will report anything is if they see it but they cant see it if its behind a flock unless they join the community O.o

wow, they seem to be asshats about this whole thing...

sorries for the mess ;_; i hope things get worked out soon

I'm confused. I'm a long-time member of Pornish Pixies, and I thought the LJ-biz post made clear that locking a community (even to 18+ members) didn't protect explicit content.

It doesn't. But it helps protect us from people who might wander by and report something. This way, if something gets reported, it has to have been done by someone who's a member of the comm and therefore can see the post, and not by John Q. Public.

Thanks for the clarification. I would still support moving to another site, such as JournalFen which limits its membership to those who are 18 or over.

I look forward to hearing what you decide.

Make sure you leave your age statement in this post over here otherwise you may not get included in our list we're checking and therefore might accidentally get deleted.

Thanks! :)

Do original members need to post an age statement, too? Just checking. :-)

Nope. Original members are exempted from the age statement since I know y'all are over age. :D

I'd been watching via RSS and recently joined. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your efforts here to protect the members and posters. I read your reply to the post in lj_biz and came off with a huge feeling of respect for you.

You chose to use phrases such as "my writers and artists" and "my community members", it is wonderful to see that from a community maintainer.

I thank you for your efforts and you have my support in whatever you choose to do with this community.

oops and forgot to add that I've got time to help age check when you need volunteers.

Thank you! I really, really appreciate your kindness so very much. :)

I really do tend to think of the authors and artists here as mine in a way, and I really want to protect them all. They've put so much hard work into giving fandom a safe, creative place to play here and I think they deserve so much better treatment than they've received so far from LJ.
