Judy's Big Goal: Lose the rest of this weight.
In September I started Weight Watchers. It went very well and I was down 20 pounds pretty quickly. Then the holidays hit and I didn't gain, but I didn't lose much either, although every little bit helps, I know. I'm still committed and am confident that I can lose the rest this year, and in even less time if I choose to be honest with myself and stick to it.

Judy's small goal: Spend less time sitting in front of this computer. I've started on this already. It's been a few weeks since I've played any of the mindless computer games that I was spending too much time playing, now I should continue with that and then I should try to reduce my overall time as well. I'm thinking of getting a timer and setting it for x amount of time and I have to get up after that amount of time.

I could use some karma on these too, neither of these goals is going to be super easy for me.

Judy's other goals: Pick up my cross stitch again, read more, enjoy more

Good karma to everyone.

Not-gaining weight over the holidays is great! I compare it to going to the casino and not-losing money... a big win!
Are you sticking with Weight Watchers? Give yourself a gold star for every day or week that you stick to your budget.

Yes, keeping up with WW, it's working for me because I'm working the program. Paying attention to what I'm eating, tracking what I'm eating, and holding myself accountable. This I can do.

My BIG Goal: Get in shape

I lost the weight, now I need to tone. A bunch of you have done this successfully in the last couple of years, so I need your karma. I have a pretty substantial limitation, however. I must be able to do whatever routine it is in my own home, and I don't want to drop a lot of cash on equipment. I own a treadmill, a nice one. I need to get back on that for cardio and weight maintenance, but I need help (advice, direction, motivation...) to actually tone my major muscle groups.

My small Goal: Do stuff myself

I have a long list of things that need to be done for my house and yard. Many of these things I can do myself or with the kids if I only make time for them. We like doing this kind of stuff, and we like doing it together. I just usually end up putting it off until it becomes urgent (at which point I end up paying someone else to do it). I should do it myself or with the kids. it will be fun, less expensive, and more meaningful.

Other Goals: use "me" time better, use my time with others better

when you say "get toned," do you mean get stronger? Get a tighter appearance? Usually that "cut" look is the result of (even lower) body fat and/or dehydration.

My favorite at-home exercise is full-body, and a real heart-starter. It's called a "burpee" or "up-down".
Do a push-up, leap to your feat (sort of like a mountain climber), then jump as high as you can. Drop to the floor and repeat. If you can do 10 of these, you'll be in good shape: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_Dq_NCzj8M

Both, really. I don't want to be "cut," necessarily; just firm.

We'll see if this ends up being tremendously optimistic, given an impending child, but I'd like to give it a shot ( ... )

Can you bring your successful work techniques to bear on these home projects? Deadlines? Status updates?

For the comics, I recommend choosing a collection size in advance that you consider acceptable, and ruthlessly cutting to get down to there. When you have no set limit, you make exceptions for everything. If you demand of yourself that you cut the collection, say, in half, you create a stark contrast that makes judgments much easier.

goals vs. action items notjenschiz January 12 2011, 15:58:05 UTC
Pat, et.al.--I applaud your making goals; that's the first step. However, I think that you all know you also need to commit to specific actions to attain your goals. As my karma input, I'll try to suggest possible actions for you to consider. Hopefully you can do the same for me.

BIG GOAL: Become an entrepreneur
My entrepreneurship class has been a fantastic experience, and if I'm lucky, it will produce the possibility of actually quitting my job and trying to be successful on my own. I'm at least 6 months from jumping into this, but in the mean time, I'm trying to focus on doing the class the best I can to the exclusion of cluttering activities.

SMALL GOAL: Keep up the banjo
In 2010, I bought a banjo and I can now play about 4 songs. I figure if I keep that up for 10 years, I'll have something of value!

Here are the 7 habits, Pat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seven_Habits_of_Highly_Effective_People

Personally, I think they're sort of vague.

What is the worst part of re-writing to you? Is it "losing" all the progress you previously made? Is it not knowing what to do? Maybe a re-write outline would help?
Go identify one entry/section/paragraph/whatever today that needs to be re-written.

Wow. The karma is out there. Thanks Karen! It DOES scare me. I dont feel motivated in the least to employ time management or scheduling or deadlines or delegation to my projects. I find it bizarre. If it was a LARP, I'd be all over the deadlines and delegation. If it was a party, I'd be micro-managing it to death. Those are two things that I feel total motivation to project manage.

Why is work so different? Why why why? Perhaps I dont need to answer that question so much as I simply need to fake it til I make it... and maybe I will find myself motivated all of a sudden once the ball is rolling.

Yeah, I'd love to talk! What's my best method for chatting with you?
