DWTS and SYTYCD: apples and orangesponders_lifeAugust 17 2007, 12:27:14 UTC
Is it as good as DWTS?
It's not really fair to compare the shows; it's like apples and oranges. DWTS takes people with no dance background and then pro ballroom dancers teach them how to dance ballroom. SYTYCD is a competition of talented dancers, most with years of training, representing different styles of dance (hip hop, breakdancing, contemporary, and jazz as well as Latin and Smooth ballroom). The challenge of SYTYCD is taking the dancer out of his/her element -- for example, having a ballroom dancer do a hip hop routine. The winner is usually the one who can adapt quickly to whatever style they're asked to perform. I love it!
We love that show! It's one of only two things I've watched this summer, the other being Hell's Kitchen. Yeah, I know, two reality shows, but they were both about talented people stretching their limits, not ordinary schmoes making idiots out of themselves for money, and food and dance are both things I love.
Mr. Mochi was rooting for Danny and I was rooting for Sabra. Yes, Danny had better technique, but for me, she just shone. OTOH, I could watch Danny for hours - so frikken gorgeous! In the end, we were both happy.
